Voice Description

I have a voice that can morph into whatever type of read that the copy calls for. For example, if I'm doing a commercial for a hospital that requires a combination of warmth AND authority, I have no trouble combining the two. If the copy calls for a quirky or animated character, I can become the snooty neighbor or the ruff and gruff cow. I can talk someone through an on-line tutorial with warmth and smoothness. If a narration needs to be strong and authoritative I have no problem with that. I can talk very fast if that is needed, or be very sexy, as my voice has that husky, smoky, quality. I can be sweet, warm, helpful, or matter of fact for voice-mail,IVR,business presentations, or websites. I have high energy for any project that might want that "over the top" quality. I can add drama or humor to any read, such as a promo piece or commercial. I have a quirky and fun sense of humor that can bring extra zip to any project that requires that, and I'm also very good at improvising and bringing the character to life, such as with sighs, moans, or other sounds a character might make in addition to what is written on the copy

My Voice Experience

For years people had been telling me what a unique, great voice I had, so about 20 years ago, I decided to take an introductory course titled "The World of Voice-overs". With my animated, quirky personality, and great (or so I've been told) story telling style, complete with vocal impersonations of the person or persons that are in the story, it seemed like something that might be fun to pursue. Back then (in the pre-computer era) the main areas of voiceovers were commercial, narration,or character. I worked with an engineer-producer and put a tape together. I then submitted it to several agencies and got great responses from all of them I've worked with many through the years. Since then I've done hundreds of commercials, narration, and other media forms, as the computer age advanced and offered more oopportunites. Some of my commercial clients include, Sealtest, Chicago Sun Times, Illinois Lottery, Bell and Howell, Bally Total Fitness, Lutheran General Hospital, WIPEX, Office Depot, Home Depot, Precious Moments, True Value Hardware, GAIN detergent, Ameritech, Bernina Sewing Machines, McDonalds, Cancer Treatment Centers, Allegra, Scrubbing Bubbles, Harley Davidson, Ace Paints,Abbot Labs, Learning Seed, Moore Health Care, Motorola, Duo-Fast Corporation, Loews, etc. I've done video games, animated character voices, such as the one Zlok (he pirates voice)on Playdoh's Doh Doh Island, and numerous web-sites and promos.

My Training

I have a BA from San Francisco State University, and have done some graduate work at Northesstern Illinois University. I've taken numerous acting classes (both for on-camera and voice-over) and am usually taking some kind of workshop to further hone my skills as a performer. I've done workshops at Second City in improvisation, and have written comedy material. I have also done on-camera TV commercials and industrials.

My Studio Equipment

I have an in house studio with a AKG perception 200 microphone, M Audio Mobile PRE USB and use Adobe Audition. Am in the process of getting an ISDN line

Additional Skills

I'm very easy to work with, and take direction well. I adapt well to voicing medical copy or other "not your every day" kind of verbage. I've had various jobs that usually involve dealing with all kinds of people. I pay attention to the assortment of people that I deal with, and their personalities and vocal style. This provides constant insight and training for voice characterizations. I'm also very chamelian-like, and can do a read many different ways. I'm a lot of fun to work with and have a quirky, off beat sense of humor
