Voice Description

Companies like DuPont and JP Morgan use my voice because it conveys credibility without sounding authoritative. Investment software producer SunGard has chosen me because I could add a touch of sophisticated British-European color to their product, without sounding stuffy or archaic. In contrast Hersheypark, asked me to portray an utterly posh, stiff-upper-lip Englishman for their commercial. For Elsevier Medical I used a heavy Russian accent to play the part of a surgeon from Eastern Europe, dictating notes. For one of my latest projects, an artsy short film, I was asked to use a Dutch accent, which came naturally because I am a native Dutch speaker. The company DataColor asked me to record a CD-ROM presentation in German, a third language I speak fluently. As a former news reader, I can do a straight bulletin or a neutral narration for an industrial. I do have a very goofy side as well. People often compare me to Ryan Stiles of "Who's line is it anyway?" because I can twist and bend my vocal chords in many different ways and also because I love to act. I enjoy doing strange and silly cartoon-like characters and as far as I'm concerned, anything goes.

My Voice Experience

I have a solid background in international broadcasting, starting off as a News Anchor, Reporter, Producer for Dutch National Radio & Television from 1988-1997. In 1992, I became a
producer for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London where I produced an award winning special on #1 British Radio Station. After that, I began working as a News Anchor, Producer, Presenter and Reporter for Radio Netherlands International (RNI), English & Dutch Service (Radio Netherlands International is the Dutch equivalent of the BBC World Service). I have covered major national and international news events in Dutch and English, both as a reporter and as the news anchor of a prime-time current affairs magazine that could be heard all over the world. For three years, I also produced and hosted my own weekly radio program on religion and social development. During my time at RNI, I have interviewed Celebrities, Prime Ministers, Nobel Prize winners, Scientists, Authors, Captains of Industry and other high-profile personalities.
After coming to the USA, I spent some time as the producer of “Natural Living with Gary Null”, a show that was distributed nationwide on Public Radio in the USA. The show was the longest running, continuously airing Talk Radio health program in America. It aired five times a week and was hosted by nutritionist and fitness-expert Gary Null. I was responsible for choosing and researching most topics, for finding and screening guests and for preparing all the questions. Each one-hour show had a minimum of three guests. I am also involved in the production of commercials and Industrials through Mike Lemon Casting, Philadelphia’s premier Casting Agency. I have done numerous voiceovers for companies like DuPont, JP Morgan, Elsevier Medical, Wyeth, Agilent Technologies and Hersheypark.

My Training

I was a student at the University of Amsterdam, majoring in European Studies with minors in English, Law, Portuguese & History. I also studied at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands (English Studies Program and Musicology). I attended the Dutch Media Academy and received training in interviewing techniques, voiceovers and editing. My 15-year period as member of a semi-professional choir was also instrumental in terms of voice training. It helped me expand the range of my voice and gave me a solid breathing technique.

Additional Skills

Apart from my work as a voice-over artist, I am very active as a corporate trainer and media coach. Using my background in journalism, I help CEO's and other high-level executives to effectively deal with the news media.
