My Voice Experience
After somety-something years on the "other side" of the microphone, I am looking to give my body a rest from the rigors of remote sports broadcast audio mixing. I'm ready to let my vocal chords and knowledge of the impact of the spoken word carry me into the next chapter of my working life.
My Training
My background includes significant practice and knowledge of public speaking: I got the “bug” while working/playing at a college radio station; I did some on-air work during two summer breaks; I have an undergraduate degree in Speech and Communications lying around the basement somewhere; I have been a lay scripture reader at my church(es) for many years; I have some training in voiceover work from the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis; I have done voiceover narration for EMC/Paradigm's (St Paul, MN) educational support materials; I am a regular volunteer reader at MN Services for the Blind.
Additionally, I have an understanding of the “other side” of the microphone. My career has been as an audio mixer for live remote television, primarily sports events, where I cringe at the sound of mispronounced and unarticulated words. I have a working knowledge of ProTools software and have edited materials for EMC/Paradigm
I’m an affable sort who takes direction well and I believe I have the goods to work in the business.
