Voice Description

My voice is a "sexy", deep male voice, according to many women, who spoke to me over the phone throughout the years, but I can modulate it in such a way, as to sound silly, rough, or even deep "from Hell it came".
I can imitate some character voices, if I listen to their original counterpart long enough.
I was born Italian speaking, but having studied, lived and worked many years between the UK and the USA, I have made English, my second mother tongue.
My family background is international enough, as to include a German and a French speaking side, hence my fluent knowledge in these two languages as well.
I used to fool around with voices such as Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the Panther from Disney's "The Jungle Book" Cartoon.
I can attempt a pretty good imitation of a singing Elvis, as he was heard in the mid-seventies during his Touring Concerts.
I am able to reproduce a faithful Chimpanzee call. So faithful in fact, that while visiting a zoo, I actually had a Chimp to Chimp conversation. To this day, I am wondering what the actual Chimpazee had tried to convey to me...
My timbre and style is very similar to that of Mr. Christopher Lee (of Hammer's "Dracula" lore) and also as deep as his.

My Voice Experience

Until now, I haven't had a serious experience in this field, but many stage colleagues of mine suggested for many years, that I should try it.
I did consider it, but kept it on hold for better days.
Yet, nowadays, having heard how many "common and undistinguished" voices do voice-overs, I have decided to jump in and do my part.
I know it won't be a walk in the park and that its technique is something very unique, that it requires attention, focus and rhythm, among other things, but at my age and with my experience on and off stage, I think I am able to give the same passion to the microphone as I give to the paying people sitting in the audience.
My inspiration in this has always been Orson Welles and his original broadcast of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds".

My Training

My voice training was developed when I decided to embrace the stage. Since there were no theatre conservatories where I lived, but only music academies, I enrolled for the Opera singing course (the first step to approach the stage) at the Accademia Musicale Malcantonese.
I did study voice technique, piano and composition for three years and had two more years of private coaching with Fernando Corena in Lugano.
Further stage projection techniques were taught to me at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City in the late 1980s and later at summer seminars with RADA in London, England in the early 1990s.
Since 1988, I have worked exclusively on stage in many varied productions, both in the United States as in Europe.
My formal studies have drawn me more toward the Classics, rather than Contemporary pieces, although I have also participated in some productions of "The Cannibals" by George Tabori and "Equus" by Peter Shaffer among others.

My Studio Equipment

I just possess a regular Sony microphone, directly connected to my PC. I process my recordings with Cool Edit Pro (now known as Adobe Audition).
The recording ambiance alas, is not up to its optimum, due to echoes caused by the material of my walls (concrete).
Even padding them won't be very useful, since the size and the shape of the room in which I do my recordings does not allow a full reverberation-free studio.

Additional Skills

My interests are very varied and span from Ancient History to Science Fiction.
I am particularly interested in the Dark Ages and Early Middle Ages, as well as the entire development of World War II. I am also interested in making out the existing historic connections and cross-ties between our world and Ancient Cultures and how these in turn, influence us.
When I speak of Science Fiction I actually speak of Science Fact as well. I like anything that has something to do with Space and Time Travel.
Ever since Yuri Gagarin circumnavigated the globe to the First Moon Landing in 1969 and on, with MIR, ISS and the Space Shuttle, I could not look at space in any different way.
Series like The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Babylon 5 and The X-Files have gripped my imagination for years.
But when Kubrick came out with "2001: A Space Odyssey" and TV later did broadcast Ray Bradbury's "Martian Chronicles", that's when my true interest in this genre began.
I am certain that more than a purely commercial voice over artist, I would make a perfect documentary commentator, but nothing has been yet written in stone...
