I am 42 years old and have been an Air Traffic Controller for over 20 years now.
I have a bachelors in Business and Entrepreneurism.
I have started three businesses outside of Air Traffic Control and have made many business presentations.
I was also a part of a competitive presentation team which placed in the top sixteen teams internationally. The field comprised of more than 400 teams at our level alone.
As an Air Traffic Controller I have learned to change my voice according to the situations that arise. I can be commanding when busy, soothing for an inexperienced pilot, reassuring for someone in trouble, or terse for those airmen who are uncoorperative. As a trainer I have learned to make my voice have a positive, reassuring quality. One that fosters attention from my audience while putting them at ease
I have acted in melodrama and drama plays in the amateur arena.
I have been an arbitration advocate for 5 years and have given many opening and closing statements whose purpose was to convince and inform the arbitrator of our position. I have been very successful in this area.
College level communication courses, (placed highest in my classes)
Private industry classes for opening and closing arguments in arbitrations.
Government training for Air Traffic Control services.
Watching "Mystery Science 3000" over and over again!
I have a fantastic sense of humor but I know when to be serious. With everything that I have done in my career from Air Traffic Control to Arbitration Advocate, to presentation team experience and then speaking to classes and schools, I have developed an understanding of how to cater to different audiences
