Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I have extensive experience in both radio and television commercial voice over work and have used many accents with ease including French and German (having studied both languages) Italian, Russian, British, Irish, Scottish and the Asian languages including Japanese, Chinese and Indian. Much to my twelve year old's son's dismay and my intense pleasure I have a lot of fun with the language of today's youth, gansta rap, hip hop, African American slang, and voices with Caribbean flavour and any manner of Canadian and American regional accents.
I have played all manner of character including Shakespearean heroins, and villain's, classic novel debutants and matriarchs, modern wife, mother, mistress.
Impersonations of Mae West, Natasha (from Bullwinkle..hahaha), Scarlet O'Hara and Vamprilla are among my repertoire.
My Voice Experience
The majority of my career has been as a live on air radio announcer in medium and small markets. I have a flair for improvisation and comedy but am capable of switching from an entertaining host position to a serious fast acting news reporter in a heartbeat (was live on air September 11th, 2001, the day the music stopped). I started my career as a reporter and news anchor before progressing to "DJ".
I have preformed in many roles in amateur stage productions (I have also produced and directed stage productions)
Professional commercial voice over work is too numerous to mention and was primarily produced as a result of my employment with CKOC/CKLH Hamilton, WKPC Oakville, CFCH North Bay and CKPC Brantford. Freelance work includes trailers for CHCH Television and private studio productions houses in Hamilton and Mississauga.
My voice over career began when I wrote and co-starred in a comedy routine prepared for Cable 10 in Mississauga and was approached by the program director to work as a news reporter after he viewed my on air performance.
I have theatrical training from Ryerson, George Brown and Sheridan College. I was accepted as a theatre student at both Sonja Moore and Stella Alder both well reputed, limited enrollment theatre schools in New York City (was too broke to attended).
To supplement my income in the past I have worked as a DJ and Master of Ceremonies for public foundations such as the "Greyhound Rescue Society" and for private functions such as weddings and parties (was the DJ, news years eve 1999 at Dundurn Castle in Hamilton...no one was dreading the possibility of "Y2K" more than I was).
Received invaluable training as a television writer, performer and editor at Cable 10 in Mississauga.
I was asked to be and did indeed accept the position as Vice President of the Gateway Theatre Guild in North Bay.
And have volunteered my time as a performer for children's and seniors entertainment productions.
I am also a certified Personal Support Worker and graduated a the top of my class with a 98.3% average.
In summary, I have enjoyed a flexible career as a voice over announcer and consider myself an asset in any manner of media.
My Studio Equipment
I am currently only outfitted with basic computer equipment but have the available space and ambition to expand as necessity warrants.
Past associations made through networking allow me accessibility to studios in Kitchener and Brantford.
Cultural exposure, thanks to having traveled from coast to coast nationally as well and to the United States, Europe and Mexico have added to my real life education and has enhanced my voice skills.
I worked as a sales supervisor for Mitsubishi Canada and am no stranger to public presentation. I have also been a sales person and manager of a stereo store which required that I research and purchase marketable home entertainment electronics. My career in electronics exposed me to a variety of instructional audio and video presentations all of which I privately critiqued.
Further more being a certified heath care worker (personal support and palliative care) technical and medical terminology and pronunciation is second nature to me. And of special note,I have in the past been a child care provider and I am also a "mom", where animation is not only essential but in my opinion the key to survival.
