Voice Description

I have a very distinctive voice that has been changed by a neurological disorder called spasmodic dysphonia. I have been encouraged by many people to market my voice for voice over work because once you hear it, you never forget it. I think my voice would work especially well for animattion work. I can sound "evil, creaky and old" or like a "chain smoking alcoholic". I've also been told my voice is sexy but that is a matter of personal taste.

I realize my voice does not work for many applications; I'm not going to sell cosmetics with this voice but I do feel my voice is very marketable and memorable.

My Voice Experience

About 12 years ago my voice started getting creaky, like I was getting over a cold. My mother had the same type of voice and I never thought much about it until people started commenting on how unusual and distictive it is. I went to several Dr.'s and one at the University of Washington agreed with me when I told him I thought I had Spasmodic Dysphonia. Spasmodic Dysphonia is a neurological disorder that affects the vocal chords. I tried treatments but they weakened my voice to a whisper and it's hard to function in life sounding like Marilyn Monroe, so I stopped.

My voice is unusual and distinctive and I've been told for many years that I have a marketable voice. So here I am, asking if it's possible to make lemonade out of my vocal chord lemons.
