Voice Description

As a woman's voice role I am able to project with varying degrees of pitches so I can play the roles of different age groups. For example, as a young girl or boy, I project my voice with a high energy and pitch. As a young woman I can morph my voice to sound either sexy or sophisticated as well as fun and energetic . As an older woman, I can deepen my voice to express maturity, sophistication and confidence.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Because I speak two languages, I can project my English with an accent from some Asian countries. I can speak Japanese and project in both masculine and feminine form with regional dialects, and in gender specific tones. Masculine with a gentle tone as well as masculine with a slight roughness. Feminine with a tone of softness as well as feminine with an underlying strength. In English I am able to project both in masculine and feminine tones. Masculine with sensitive undertones, mostly youthful boys voice to an adult young man's voice. feminine with varying age contours, youthful, fun, exuberant, adult tone with a sexy, confident and crisp tone and as a middle age woman with a rich and educated feel.

My Voice Experience

I have always enjoyed reading and projecting out loud. In college, I had a work study job reading text books onto tapes for our college's learning center. These days, I read stories out loud to children. My specialty is to read out loud in character and children seem to really enjoy the stories that I read to them, because I bring the story to life with the different voice styles that I use for characters. I also read out loud for elderly. My work has mostly been voluntary so far. I have been interested in exploring a career doing voice overs as I think it is a very interesting and growing field to work in, and I believe I have a good foundation to work in this field.

My Training

I am currently training in "Voice Movement Therapy course work, a therapeutic modality which utilizes ones own voice to express inner feelings. I have trained as a singer and project my voice through music and song both in groups and as a solo artist. I am a nurse by trade and work in a management capacity where I am required to speak in meetings and other public venues about our programs and our work. I also have been a tutor and teacher of languages (English and Japanese) since the years 1994 until now. In teaching it is a requirement that one is confident and capable of using voice to deliver ones message so I have been fortunate to have a lot of teaching experience. While I have not done professional voice over work, I feel that my experience and training has prepared me to be able to handle the requirements of the voice over profession.
