Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Standard British, cockney, Irish, Scottish, French, German, Russian/Eastern European. Many U.S. dialects, too: country, redneck, Southern Gentleman. Characters: Old Jewish man, German-effeminate hairdresser, drill sergeant - tell me what you're looking for and I can come up with a voice for that character. The original and still the voice of "Barley the Bull" - mascot for No Bull Beer Cheese Spread with Attitude.
My Voice Experience
I started as an acting major at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, so my voice-over approach is from an actor's perspective.
In radio, my first position was the news/sidekick for the morning show, eventually, doing every shift except midnight-6a.
When I became the Creative Services Director for a five-station cluster I really hit my stride. I dove into copywriting and advertising head first. A whole new world opened up to me.
I study Al Reis and Jack Trout, Joseph Sugarman, Roy Williams, Dan O'Day, Claude Hopkins and David Ogilvy. All of them have molded my acting, voice-over and copywriting since the beginning.
I understand everybody's perspective throughout the entire recording process - I know what to do to make the engineer's editing job easier, I understand what the copywriter is thinking, and can picture what the client wants. I am very easy to work with.
My Training
I began as an actor/dancer when I was 10 years old. Performing in local plays and musicals, that continued through high school - where I landed lead roles my senior year.
I started as an acting major at NYU and finished my degree at the University of Illinois in Production Stage Management and Arts Administration.
I broke into radio as the news/sidekick for the morning show and eventually landed the Creative Services Director position.
My advertising concepts have lead to scuba diving summer camps to be sold out, a Mexican restaurant opened its doors and 14 months later had sold 5 franchises, websites saw a 500% increase in traffic overnight.
I've been the shouting car dealership voice, the redneck bbq place voice, the Bull mascot with attitude, the hard-nosed drill sergeant, effeminate German hairdresser and soft-spoken rehabilitation facility spokesperson.
If that ain't range, I don't know what is!!
My Studio Equipment
Samson microphone, Altec Lansing speakers, Sennheiser headphones, Adobe Audition 3.0 software.
Additional Skills
I still write and produce a lot of radio commercials...I understand the writing process, the sales process, I can easily "see" the purpose of the commercial and can step in to fill my role as the voice of the project.
