My Voice Experience

I started out sitting in front of the TV on Saturday mornings, with hardly any other kids my age in my neighborhood to play with. I learned to recognize Mel Blanc, Daws Butler, Bud Collier...you get the idea. Bored out of my skull, I started mimicking the voices on TV, and finding out I not only got a kick out of doing it, I was actually pretty good at it. When I got to high school, my coaches frowned on such frivolity, so I stopped. (STUPID!!!)

Years later, in college, I helped found KTSB, the student-run station at the University of Texas in Austin. I had a morning show and did a lot of pre-recorded bits with myself; some were actually funny and I gathered a following. (Not a very big one, though...it WAS cable, after all.) After doing college radio for a couple of years, I got hired by KPEZ ("Austin's Album Rock, Z-102") and worked for them for a couple of years before I moved to Los Angeles. I had a nice, long-running commercial with AT&T for a few months back in 1991-92. And here I am.

My Training

Some of my training -- indeed, quite a bit -- is self-taught. But my BEST training has been from studying with Nancy Wolfson, and Jessica Gee; I am now studying improv with Melanie Chartoff, to hone my acting skills.

Additional Skills

My special area of concentration at UT/Austin was screenwriting; I have developed a natural ear for dialog and can adapt any script, on the fly, for how my character would speak or act. I have written for radio, as well. I produced a segment for KTSB, "All About Austin", an interview show, that featured various local celebrities, non-celebrities and visiting luminaries. I really love talking to people and finding out what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. I'm a naturally very curious person, and love to prepare questions for interviews that both delight and surprise my subjects.
