My Voice Experience
Manchester Village Radio -
A newly launched internet-based station needed some radio imaging and having seen my work with Gaydio, decided to ask for me. I produced a sponsorship commercial and all of their jingles. I added music and special effects and recorded it all at my home studio in Manchester and MVR were delighted with the results.
Gaydio 88.4 FM -
I was involved in several activites during Gaydio's August broadcast. I was firstly brought aboard to voice the station's 'Classifieds' - advertisements for local businesses. From this, I was also asked to record vox-pops for the Breakfast show - a daily talking point for the programme. I did a feature on Councillor Paul Fairweather's 'Out in the Past' Gay-History Trail in Manchester by going on the trail with Paul and letting him talk me through each historical point on the trail around the city centre. I am still involved with the station now it runs full time and am a regular contributor.
Billy Michaels -
Billy is a professional singer who uses me as the voice of his MC to bring him onstage and also advertise his CDs during the interval. I pre-record the introductions according to his wishes - dry or with echo, grand or subdued, sometimes onto the intros of his first music track and he plays them at each live performance.
Soron Radio (SWRN)-
An internet radio station based in America which specialised in jazz and swing music asked me for two station idents, which I provided. These were played periodically between tracks to identify the station on-air.
ASDA-Walmart, Eastlands, Manchester -
As their in-store Greeter part of my job was to announce regular advertisements over the PA system and also make general service announcements. This was where I first discovered a liking for voice work. I would create and write down the text of each commercial based on the latest offers in-store and every fifteen minutes would announce them throughout the store (at the time, the biggest supermarket store in western Europe) using the wireless mic and all-around-the-building PA system. This was in addition to the ordinary announcements of asking for cleaners and asking for colleagues. The management also asked me to record the messages for the store's telephone switchboard system. As I worked at ASDA for around two years, voicing ads every fifteen minutes over an eight-hour shift, I built up a lot of growth and strength in my voice which sustains me to this day. It was while I was at ASDA that I took up a voice-over course to help me become a better voice-over.
