My Voice Experience

I have been a radio brodcaster since 1991. I have always presented a jazz music format but am quite knowledgeable about classical, rock/pop, Soul/R&B/Blues and World music genres. I have delivered public service announcements for a variety of purposes, mostly in the areas of social/public awareness and cultural events. I have delivered lectures on the history, origins and development of jazz for diverse audiences including, elementary school-age children, high school students and adults. These have taken place in schools and bookstores. I also have emceed/hosted jazz concerts and festivals, introducing musical acts, in small clubs, medium sized concert halls and sometimes before large, outdoor crowds. I've conducted many live, on-air interviews and panel discussions with musical artists and public office seekers and holders on a variety of topics and subjects. I made many on-air presentations about jazz musicians and commented upon the socio-cultural-political landscape in which it has and continues to evolve. In 2005 I performed a voiceover for a video produced by the grass-roots political action organization ACORN.

My Training

I received a Masters degree in Public Health, with an emphasis in Epidemiology and biostatistics, from the University of Texas School of Public Health in 2002. I delivered an oral presentation of my thesis project and made many others, both individually and in groups, throughout my matriculation. I competed on both my high school and college debate teams, in extemporaneous speaking and rhetorical criticism events.

My Studio Equipment

I have access to a variety of studio equipment at the station from which I currently broadcast, Pacifica affiliate WPFW 89.3 FM.

Additional Skills

I have been a volunteer community health outreach worker for an organization called GOSPEL (Glorifying Our Spiritual and Physical Existence for Life), a church-based Montgomery County Health Department initiative whose purpose is to alleviate health disparities among ethnic populations. I have made many oral, public presentations regarding personal health and fitness.
