I started in college as a Theatre Major with an emphasis on performance and direction by doing narrations for other students in Film who were producing documentaries for class projects. I later opened an advertising agency and was the agency's Copywriter, Creative Director and Voice Talent. After closing the agency, I went to work for Money Mailer, a franchisor, as the National Director of Marketing, and wrote and voiced all of their national radio and television ads and their infomercial. From 1998 to 2003 I was the Marketing and Advertising Manager for Boot Barn, a west coast retailer of western, work and casual wear. In that position I wrote and voiced all of their radio and television commercials, bought all broadcast media, and served as emcee at special promotions at the stores, going live on the radio with local DJs to promte the events. From 2003 to now, I have been freelancing on the side of my "job", primarily doing copywriting and narrations for corporate videos for local video production companies.
Beyond my high school, junior college and college classes in theatre arts and several speech classes at the college level, I am pretty much self-taught. I have done considerable work at Dave Lewis' studio in Irvine, California called Audio Images. He helped me to hone my craft with great direction while producing all of the spots I did for Boot Barn and Money Mailer.
I am very, very talented at both copywriting and copy editing, and can edit in studio on the fly. I have also worked with other talent and can direct, but that is not my strongest suit. For Boot Barn, to save money I had several female employees come into studio and record several pages of wild tracks (i.e. "Wow! That's great! Tell me more!") that I could incorporate into the scripts without having to keep bringing the girls back into the studio. I have spent more than 30 years in Marketing and Advertising at a Management level, I am a skilled Creative Director, so I can tell whether or not a promotion has the potential of being a home run or not from the get-go.
