My Voice Experience
I began doing voiceovers this spring for a local radio station I'm currently working as a reporter for in Hamden, CT. The station is AM 1220 WQUN. Voiceovers included promotions for our station's coverage of Boston Red Sox baseball, local television stations and corporate sponsors such as Six Flags New England, Super 8 Motels and Santa Fe food products.
For the voiceovers, I was given a script to read from the news directors here at WQUN and was asked to voice them over. If I chose to, I was allowed to alter it so that it sounded smooth on the air. The scripts were emailed or faxed to the station by Metro Networks. WQUN uses these scripts to promote local, state and national businesses each day.
My Training
I'm currently pursing my master's degree in Journalism from Quinnipiac University, expected to complete my studies next spring, 2008.
I began getting practice to do voiceovers earlier this spring at WQUN, and have been doing them on a consistent basis. I've also reached out to other local radio stations in Connecticut in attempting to do the same thing.
By working as a news reporter at WQUN, I was able to work on my voice and diction, which has now enabled me to apply those skills in doing voiceovers for the station---and, possibly for others.
