My Voice Experience

I got my start in voice over just by being the only young man at a recording studio I used to work at. One day, the head engineer came into the conference room and asked me to read for a hockey supply advertisement. We got the 2 minute script done very quickly. Two weeks later I found out they used my voice. I then decided to hire a VO coach and pursue voiceover as a career. After a few courses and lengthy training, I began to take on clients regularly. With my audio engineering experience, radio imaging was a no brainer for me and I found a lot of success in that medium early on. I've since gone on to do everything from narrating children's novels to major promo ads.

I've been behind the board and behind the mic many times and I know exactly how to deliver the performance the client is looking for. It's very easy to act excited about a product when you genuinely love what you do.

My Studio Equipment

On top of being a working voice over talent, I am also a seasoned audio engineer and audio purist. Over the years I have acquired top end gear that would rival most professional studios.

We'll go through the whole signal chain of what I use for VO, starting with the microphone.

Neumann TLM-49 - I have tested literally hundreds of microphones on my voice over the years. This mic seems to have been perfectly tailored for my voice.

Universal Audio LA-610 Preamp and Compressor - This unit not only has one of the most sought after preamps in the business but combines it with the original LA-2A compressor circuit that has been used on thousands of pro recordings. More than anything, this unit shapes my sound into the professional standard that it is.

Apogee AD/DA Converters - Getting your audio into a digital format and into your computer can cause significant quality loss with sub par gear. Thankfully, Apogee has the best converters in the business. There is no discernible difference between my analog and digital signals.

Pro Tools 11 DAW - Top of the line industry standard digital audio workstation

Genelec 8040B Active Studio Monitors - Hearing EXACTLY what you record is very important in the editing process, and these monitors allow me to do just that.

As far as isolation goes, I have built a completely isolated vocal booth in my studio. I even designed a ventilation system that automatically cuts off the vents when I am recording.

Additional Skills

I have worked in a very wide spectrum of careers. I've served my country in Afghanistan, and I've played guitar professionally on a cruise ship. I've hosted original shows for Discovery Channel's digital network, and even found some success on youtube. One thing that all of those jobs (or almost any job for that matter) have in common is communication. I love communicating with people, and I understand how to convey a message tailored for a specific situation. Scripts speak to me, and bringing them to life is my passion
