Voice Description

Coined by Montreal Publicist, Diane Simard as, "the voice which opens the heart and sows the seeds of generosity," Mary Sarah captivates listeners with her multifaceted voice. Whether improvising at the opening of a concert, conducting a Live Training, or narrating an Industrial, Sarah has the ability to compel us, bringing us into a place where we are moved and inspired. Soothing and stimulating, dramatic and playful, there is no limit to what Sarah calls, "the playground of voice." For years, Mary Sarah had been told how "unique" her voice was and even that "it would be used to create peace, " by a Nigerian Prince who once attended a concert. Sarah states, "It is forever interesting to me how powerful the voice can be, whether running lines or simply chatting, my voice is consistently commented on."

I love the power of the voice to communicate emotionally and viscerally. I love the ability to experiment with all forms of theatrical concepts in voice and to let new vocal possibilities emerge.

My Voice Experience

A vocal artist for many years, I have worked extensively in theatre; including Shakespeare, film, video and as a musician with world sounds, creating musical compositions, songs, and performance art across cultures with a multitude of musicians and within various genres.

My Training

Trained at The Riverside Shakespeare Academy in New York City, The Actor's Studio and The Royal Tyler Theatre, with emphasis on physical forms of acting that work with voice, body, rhythm and rhyme. Extensive work with world musicians, sound and vocabulary; including West Africa, Inuit Indian, Eastern European, East Indian, Southern Gospel and Classical.
