Voice Description

I have a natural warm baritone, which can readily extend over four octaves. Authoritative and persuasive, my voice is ideal for voice-overs in narrations, presentations and educational productions. I am stage-trained, having appeared in numerous amateur and professional theater productions, and can project a full range of emotions - pathos, humor, wit, sympathy, care, encouragement, sorrow, boredom, ecstasy, excitement, evangelistic fervor, or passion with my voice, as needed. I am a skilled mimic, and command a range of accents flawlessly, including Scots, German, (British-educated young person to aged grandparent), British (from Yob to Eton), French, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, and Caribbean (Jamaica). Raised in West Africa, I am fluent in African Pidgin English, and effortlessly speak both Cameroonian and Nigerian “schoolboy” English. I speak German and English as native languages, with Parisian French as a second language. I am a singer – soloist, quartet member and full choral bass, both a capella and accompanied – ideal for jingles and other musical voice-over requirements. I can voice characters ranging from mincing actors, elderly consumptives, erudite commentators (think Alastair Cooke), Barney the Dinosaur, and televangelists to raging dictators, kindly fathers, ecstatic teenagers, and informative newscasters, for cartoons, character sketches, commercials or other character voice-over work.

My Voice Experience

My voice has been called on for documentary and instructive voice-overs for travelogues, historical presentations, and petroleum industry training videos, dramatic stage presentations (both amateur and professional), and extensive public speaking and radio and television interviews, as a corporate spokesman, teacher, Master of Ceremonies, and testimonial speaker. I am a drama coach and teacher, focusing on voice projection and training, and have a keen grasp of the immense power of the spoken word and how to use it.

Recordings include (among others) video training presentations on “Lifting Tanks the Right Way” and “The Hydrotherm Tank Cleaning System” for an Alberta-based oil industry company; historical and informative video presentations “Brentview Ministries Growth Fund” and “Teen Missions Vanuatu and Fiji Report” for churches in Alberta; and voicemail recordings and voicemail greetings at Canadian and US-owned companies.

My Training

My training for voice over work stems primarily from stage and singing training and on-the-job experience since junior high school, honed through numerous productions and performances. My role as communications manager and corporate spokesman for a number of companies including a major defense contractor further developed my professional writing and speaking skills, along with a variety of opportunities that led to voice-over work, public and instructional speaking, and voice characterizations.
