Voice Description
My voice is a warm baritone with a wide range upper and lower, able to do Don LaFontaine-type rugged movie or documentary narrative. Have strong falsetto and crazy noise effects if needed. I can vary timbre from raspy to clear, mood from serious to goofy - flexible with character or script. Can do rapid-fire commercial disclaimers, have precise diction for professional presentations or training guides. Medical employment history enables understanding and pronunciation of technical terminolgies. And I can have a good natural fun time with my clear and believable "dad" voice.

My Voice Experience
If it's pirate ye want, ye have sailed to the right harbor, mate! I be a character reenactor, and present at events two types of pirates -- a respected and tough captain or a drunken sailor. Portraying the roles in person manifests in the sound of me voice, since reactions to what I do and say in person validates and enhances the character's believability.
I've got years of experience with a Virginian accent, having done many years of public reenacting as a Confederate Partisan Ranger. First-person persona, accent ingrained. Not a cartoony drawl, but the real deal. To make a character work, I become that character.
I've done public announcements and emcee work at large public events, gatherings and art festivals. Worked for many years as an EMT/Paramedic teacher/examiner so am very familiar with medical/technical language and instruction.
I work part-time as a Public Information Officer for FEMA - did major media interviews (CNN, NPR) on the streets and in radio stations post-Katrina in New Orleans. I have no qualms about spontaneous, think-on-your-feet radio or television interviews or extemporizing in non-scripted situations.
I have done radio commercials for a local media group.
Recently I recorded the phone message system for Recreational Equipment, Inc in Clackamas, OR.
I have also recorded three books for Oregon's Talking Books Services for the sight-impaired.
My Training
I have trained at FEMA's Mt Weather in Maryland and worked for four years with federal and state agencies as a public information officer. As a PIO I've been deployed to many states as a spokesperson for FEMA, including five weeks in Lousisiana Post-Katrina/Rita. This multi-faceted endeavor entails public speaking, writing, radio and television interviews (as interviewee and interviewer).
I have taken classes and am involved in a work group with VoiceOver Driving School in Portland, Oregon.
I have been a historical reenactor for fifteen years, from mountain man to Confederate Cavalry to Wild West Gunfighter/Outlaw to Buccaneer. All involve character voice and action, all involve being the character.
I have trained as a 9-1-1 dispatcher in Multnomah County (Oregon)and as communications coordinator there helped write and edit the procedural manuals that medical dispatchers use on every call from the public.
My Studio Equipment
Laptop computer with mp3 recording and sending capability
Additional Skills
I have been blessed with a life of variety -- rock & roll drummer, forest product knockabout, art gallery owner, paramedic and EMT trainer,
9-1-1 medical communications coordinator, martial artist, Arts Festival Board member, president/spokesperson for a 400-member ceramic arts organization, county and federal emergency management specialist, professional studio potter...
My life as a self-employed person, in addition to positions as team player, has taught me the value of discipline, the ability to multi-task, and flexibility.
I have learned that attention to detail and listening to the concerns, needs, and directions of others makes the difference between competence and excellence.
