My Voice Experience

I have been working on different character voices for years for the different roles I have played in theatrical productions, for my voice tapes, and just for fun. I've written many commercial ads simply for my own voiceover Samples on CD's and for the acting classes I teach where my students will use the ads for commercial acting practice. I have not ventured into purely voice over work as a business until now. I love performing goofy character voices, such as a squeaky nerdish kid (think of the female version of PeeWee Herman), a sexy voice with a Spanish accent, and I once played "Buffy" in Jim Rusk's Broadway musical "Mrs. God" (short version performed at the P.A.C. in Tulsa)- Buffy had a high-pitched, nazal voice much like the voice of Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors". I've played both serious and silly characters throughout my acting experiences. I was the lead hostess in a training video for Intel Communications in Tulsa, and I was the voiceover narrater in the film "NightRace" (with DarkWood Productions, Oscar Ray & Shiron Butterfly, directors/producers), which was a very slow-speaking, midwestern straight voice that opened the movie. I've done quick-witted, fast-paced voices and voices with a slow southern drawl, voices with youthful pep, and sex-bombs; I was Sugar in "Some Like it Hot" (Clark Theater, Phillis Frick, director/producer) in which I had to maintain a breathy, soft and sexy voice throughout the production. I can sound like a female drill sargent or a nurturing mother, or a giddy, excited child at Disney World or a wealthy diva at Tiffiny's. TRY ME!

My Training

I attended college for four 1/2 years but still have yet to graduate with a solid degree since I changed my major several times in the arts and then temporarily lost interest and took off for L.A. and the world of dance and acting in my early 20's.
My major was commercial and studio art with a minor in modern dance, but I later discovered I had more of an interest in the performing arts. I studied acting with Carlton Winters, Phyllis Ford-Frick, David McCally, Russell Langley Agency, Modeling with Linda Layman, and others locally. Most of my voice over training was self-taught. I have acted in community theater on many occassions as well as some film and television commercials. I had a lead speaking role in a Ford Tauras commercial (Oklahoma Ford). I have taught classes for many years in dance (jazz, tap, ballet, hiphop, modern), and modeling & acting....the latter is where voice overs are practiced in class frequently. I write T.V. and radio ads frequently for my classes (but haven't tried to get them published with an ad agency - must work within the ad company to do that, usually), thus I have a very keen idea how the characters and voices need to sound in the ads, funny and straight. I am an imaginative, creative person who needs to put my talent (voice overs) to work!

Additional Skills

I've owned my own landscape design company for 12 years, planning aesthetic layouts for residential and business properties. I choreographed dances (both hip hop & musical theater style) for a children's television show, "The Company Party" in Oklahoma in which I created a new dance for each daily shoot. Each 3 minute dance always opened the show & the show aired for one year in many states. I often work as a makeup and hair artist on clients of photographers in their photo sessions and I continue to teach hair and makeup application as part of the acting and modeling program that I teach at a model & talent school. I have been teaching classes in dance, exercise (aquatics, jazzercise, aerobics, etc.), acting, modeling, makeup, hair, reading(tutoring kids), and I've been a preschool and daycare teacher for a spell....so with all my teaching experience combined with my stage and film acting it is apparent that I've done much speaking before the public and have had to be quite aware of my voice quality to listening ears.
