My Voice Experience

My very first voice over was for Cold Storage, a local supermarket chain and it was, by accident. There was no one else about. All eyes were on yours truly. So a little apprehensive, I made my appearance in the same studio I had performed various producing tasks in for five years and took my place in the booth. I had directed before; this was my moment of truth. "Could I walk the talk? How would I do?", I thought.

I loved it - and thankfully, so did the client. That was in 1996 and since then, more opportunities have presented themselves, allowing me to acquire invaluable experience. I've been privileged to have worked for such names as DBS Bank, Prudential, Marshall Cavendish, Cisco Systems, Caltex/Chevron/Texaco, McGraw-Hill, F&N, Dubai Islamic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Hong Leong Bank as well as various local government establishments.

These projects ranged from Training and E-Learning Courses to Corporate Documentaries, Commercials and Telephone Prompts. Most of them were either narrative or character voices - dogs, cats, mice, boys, girls, monkeys and zebras, and the occasional song recording for ESOL-type audio books.

These days, the voice booth is very much a part of my work environment as the rest of the studio, but I still fondly recall that very first time.

My Studio Equipment

Recordings are done with either Studio Projects C1, Neumann or a Black Hole microphones through a Focusrite Firewire interface to, depending on the project, Pro Tools, Sonar or one of the other DAW.

Additional Skills

I have produced, edited, directed and shot for corporate and training video projects. I currently direct voice over sessions and train new voice talent in the area of voice acting and mic techniques.

Supplying and recording foreign voice talent for cold reads and dubs is part of my business as well. I can handle projects in Thai, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Urdu, Pashto, Bengali, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Bulgarian, Serbian, Romanian, Dutch, Portuguese and Arabic among many others.
