What to Expect From Your First Colonoscopy
This is a motion graphics explainer video for the web. It will use an animated character to show a person's normal anxieties about getting their first colonoscopy and then will explain what to really expect. The tone of the video is light hearted and even a bit playful. This is a buyout. The client is a non-profit cancer center.

Script Details

So. Your doctor told you it’s time to schedule a colonoscopy. Okay, want to know what to really expect your first time? You can’t eat any solid food the day before the procedure and you can only have clear liquids. And your colon needs to be clean and smooth like the palm of your hand. If it’s not totally clean, you may have to repeat the procedure. So drink all the laxative solution the doctor gives you. Let’s be honest. This next part kinda stinks. Your colon is clean when nothing but clear liquid comes out. And that might take awhile... As for the procedure itself, you’ll be under sedation, so you won’t feel a thing. But just as an FYI, the doctor will inflate your colon with air or another gas, and insert a tiny camera to look for abnormalities. During the procedure, the doctor may remove polyps or take tissue samples for study. The procedure only takes about an hour. When it’s over, to be released from the hospital, you need to pass one simple test. You won’t be able to drive home, so be sure to arrange for a ride ahead of time. Most people feel fine after the procedure. And you can resume your normal diet if your doctor says it’s OK. So for most 50 year old men or women it’s time for a colonoscopy! Oh, that’s about seven in dog years.
