Project Main Details

Vegetarian History Dramatic Readings Arabic accent
I am casting readings from a selection of characters from the North Africa and Turkey of antiquity. These are people who have played some role in the history of vegetarianism.

Most of the characters are early Christians, particularly around Alexandria. The major guest is a Coptic Christian. I'd thus like the characters to have accents that remind listeners of the area.

Characters include:
* Saints Clement (of Alexandria), Athanasisus (of Alexandria) and Augustine (of Hippo).
* The traveller Ibn Battuta (for a later episode)
* A pronouncement against (vegetarian) heresies of a church council

This project is non-profit, but there is a modest budget for actors. The agreed fee is for all non-commercial use, including release online and broadcast on a community radio station; commercial use (which is unlikely) would be covered separately. That fee would be fully commercial.

Script Details

Because this is a set of varied readings, I would like you to read 3 sentences from 2 different characters to show your range.

ABOUT READING ONE: St. Athanasius' biography of Father Theon. This is a literal hagiography, selling the audience on how impressive Abba Theon is.

His food consisted of garden herbs, and they said that he used to go forth from his cell by night and mingle with the wild animals of the desert, and he gave them to drink of the water which he found.

ABOUT READING TWO: A Polemic against Manichaeans (a rival religion whose priesthood eats only ritual vegan meals) by theologian Augustine of Hippo:

For we see and hear by their cries that animals die with pain. Man, however, disregards this in a beast, with which, not having a rational soul, we have no community of rights.
Please note that you should only use the script or your recording of it for auditioning purposes. The script is property, unless otherwise specified, of the voice seeker and it is protected by international copyright laws.
