Project Main Details

There Are Two Sides to Every Story
Thank you for considering our project for Holy Week this year (Palm Sunday/Good Friday/Easter).

The idea we are doing this year is that there are “two sides to every story”. So, for example, on Palm Sunday, we are exploring the idea of a “peaceful revolution”. And on Good Friday, we are exploring “darkness and light”. And on Easter, we are exploring “life and death”. For each service, we have a dialogue between God and Satan that will be in a video during the services.

For God we are looking for a serious, masculine voice. Now, for Satan, we are looking for a voice much like the voice of Lucifer on the FOX TV show “Lucifer” (example here in the promo:

Script Details

God: See, my beloved son hangs between Heaven and Hell, bearing the sins of the world on his shoulders. See, Lucifer—he refuses the soldiers wine. He pays the price by refusing all comfort.

Satan: All comfort? Tell me you didn’t place Lazarus in the crowd to give him false hope, that he too could defeat death.

God: Grief brought Lazarus here to mourn the death of his friend and savior. Compassion brought him here so he can console Mary and Martha. But I brought him here, not for Jesus’ sake—but for yours. Lazarus stands before you to remind you of the hope of resurrection; to keep you from imagining that you’ve won any victory today.

Satan: I’ll confess, when Jesus called Lazarus from the grave, I panicked. Death extinguished the light in Lazarus’s eyes, and when Jesus re-lit his candle, I reeled for weeks. I nearly lost hope.

God: Then you nearly came to your senses.

Satan: Then I noticed the walnut-sized lump under Lazarus’ jaw. He’s anxiously fidgeting with the tumor now. He worries what it could be, but can’t imagine it’s the seed of a cancer that will someday take his life. I wonder—if he knew what a slow and painful death awaiting him, would he have praised Jesus for resurrecting him?
Jesus gave new life, but it will only lead to new death. Lazarus will be mine again. So resurrect him. Enjoy him for a season if you must. But know that death will claim him again. Winter always claims what Spring sows.

God: You speak of seeds. And you are a master farmer. Through Adam and Eve, you sowed seed from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil into the hearts of all people. And death entered the world. But I tell you, the middle cross is the Tree of Life, and my Son is its fruit.

God: Listen to truth: Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies it bears much fruit.

Satan: Your son is moments from death.

God: Death is the blossom that springs from sins’ seeds. But tell me, would you recognize the flower if something other than sin was planted?
