Project Main Details
Snow pours in to ALICE'S (8)room, a Shirley Temple doppelganger, two large open BAY WINDOWS, PINK SATIN CURTAINS are horizontal, angry ghosts, animated by the wind. Alice sits cross-legged in her FAIRY COSTUME, sketching, oblivious to the tempest in her room, drawing on a VERY GROWN-UP SKETCH PAD. MARBLES of varying sizes are splayed all over the floor, concentrated in front of the windows.
Alice! Alice! Alice!
I'm in my room Daddy.
Hyperventilating, sweating and covered in blood, Sam bounds in to the room, scoops Alice up, squeezing her in his arms, her head over his shoulder. Tears stream from his tightly shut eyes.
Oh Alice. Oh Alice. What-are-we going to do?
(in a sweet sing-song voice)
I am sorry Daddy, I know I am supposed to clean up my marbles after I am finished playing with them.
Sam's eyes spring open, two bloodshot saucers of panic.
The faintest hint of a smirk emanates from her porcelain-doll lips.
INSERT SKETCH PAD:
An intricate drawing of a marble with the reflection of Theresa spastically falling out the window, martini glass in hand, done in startlingly realistic detail. The wind blows the preceding page over the drawing.
Alice looks at us-- this is an indication that she is having an internal dialogue.
I was looking forward to that Yves Saint Laurent jacket as a hand-me-down. Gotta give her credit though, she didn't spill a sip of her martini as she went out the window.
(with a devilish smile)
Oh come on. Don't get all judgey. If it makes you feel more comfortable, I can fake tears and hysteria.
EXT. GREEN RIVER CEMETARY - EAST HAMPTON - DAY
Sam, Alice and a small group of mourners huddle closely for warmth. Alice hugs Sam around the waist. She wears a head scarf and dark movie-star-glasses, a mini Jackie O. Tears stream down Alice's face. She turns to us, removes her sunglasses and points at her tears.
The coffin is being lowered in the grave. Without warning Alice lets go of Sam, runs and belly flops on the casket as it descends. There are gasps and shouts. The GRAVE DIGGER fumbles for the button to stop the descent.
Alice sobs uncontrollably, as Sam pulls her from the casket.
Mama! Mama don't leave us.
I know sweetheart. I know.
He hugs her tightly, rocking her.
I've always had a flair for the theatrical.
INT. BREARLEY SCHOOL - THEATER - DAY
Alice's class is rehearsing the Three Little Pigs. MS. PENDERGRASS, 50s, the drama teacher, sits in the front row observing. Alice, the Wolf and JANIE, 7, a mousy little thing, Pig 2, standing behind a feeble set of a STRAW HOUSE run their lines. (We see Alice's wolf costume in CGI, unnervingly true to life).
PIG 2 : (JANIE)
No, no, (with half-hearted fright) Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!
Ms. Pendergrass has a worried look.
I am sorry Janie, but I am not feeling your fear.
Alice approaches Janie, and whispers in her ear. A green fog of breath and saliva cover Janie.
If I don't see more fear I am going to cut your head off.
I'm a wolf in wolf's clothing.
Janie's little lip quivers as Alice skips back to her place .
Now Janie, let’s try that again.
No, no, (voice breaking) Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!
Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in (loud, proud and blowing).
Now that's what I am talking about.
Ms. Pendergrass' facial expression escalates from concern to horror.
