At Reaching Souls this is our core objective: We want to present the gospel to as many people as possible and do it as effectively and efficiently as possible. And we have seen God move in a radical and fundamental way by giving us a missions model that uses passionate, equipped, and trained missionaries that have reaped a harvest beyond our wildest imaginations.
To date, Reaching Souls supports and sends over 1,700 missionaries across Africa, India, and Cuba. And in 2015, those 1,700 missionaries saw nearly 8 million professions of faith. That’s nearly the population of New York City, saved by the Gospel in one year, through Reaching Souls.
Imagine you had to create the perfect missionary to reach a particular country…what qualities would the perfect missionary have?
Think about it…
They would have a passionate love for Jesus and would be zealots to preach the word of God.
They would be trained to use that passion to preach the gospel.
They would know the cultural and spiritual context of the area they were called to…so they could present the Gospel in a way that their people group could understand.
They would also know the language, geography, and people group intimately.
And finally they would be affordable so that the resources that God has given us would be maximized and stretched as far and wide as possible.
When we asked this question at Reaching Souls the answer was obvious:
Let’s train indigenous leaders to become missionaries.
What would happen if partnered with evangelists who have the desire but need the training and resources to live out their calling and then empower and equip these National Missionaries to preach the gospel in their homeland?
The result has been nothing short of miraculous.
Here’s how it works:
We identify, interview, and train up local evangelists at our Training Institutes in the countries that we serve.
We then pay each missionary $60 a month, a wage that is not only fair in this context but competitive.
Each national missionary is given a bicycle for transportation, a portable Speaker System, life-saving Mosquito nets, and health care for them their families.
All of this adds up to approximately $100.00 a month or $1,200.00 a year to fully fund and equip each National Missionary.
This missionary then, under the leadership and support of a Reaching Souls director, begins to preach the gospel, taking with them what we call a “Timothy” or a disciple who is trained to become the next generation of evangelists.
And they GO…
What we have found is that, not only are these National Missionaries affordable but they are effective.
For every 44 cents Reaching Souls spent in 2015 one person made a profession of faith. For what you put into a parking meter, a person’s life and eternity was forever altered by a relationship with Jesus.
We believe that this is how God will transform countries. God will use these National Missionaries to go to their neighbors and country-men to present the gospel.
What if we decided to partner with these national missionaries and send even more through Reaching Souls to see entire countries come to Christ at the number of 8 million a year or more.
