Joshua Jack Huddy American Revolutionary who was kind of a troublemaker

Script Details

Born Joshua in Salem County I was best known as “rebellious troublemaker Jack Huddy”. The Quakers disowned me for my rough ways when I was 22. In spite of those rough ways, convictions and financial trouble, I wed Mary Borden and had two daughters. A few years after Mary died I moved to Colt’s Neck and wed Catherine Hart. The rough ways that imprisoned during peacetime won appointment as a Monmouth Militia Captain in 1779. I led raids; captured and sometimes executed Loyalists.
I served with State Troops at the Battle of Germantown. Mounted troops followed me into the Battle of Monmouth. The Retaliators I joined in 1780 practiced eye-for-an-eye justice against Loyalists. Later that year I commanded The Black Snake as a privateer gunboat. A month later I was captured in my Colts Neck tavern house by Colonel Tye’s Loyalist raiders. Tye marched me to a boat at West Park in Rumson bound for New York. Patriot gunfire from the New Jersey side of the Shrewsbury River capsized the boat. Although wounded in the thigh I swam to shore and escaped.
The Block House at Toms River I commanded fell two years later. William Franklin signed a warrant to hang me in retaliation for the murder of a Loyalist. Captain Richard Lippincott’s Associated Loyalists used the warrant to take me from British custody on pretense of a prisoner exchange. Our boat landed at Middletown Point on the south coast of Sandy Hook Bay. On the beach at the foot of the Navesink Hills they gave lie to pretense. My April 12, 1782 hanging sparked a diplomatic bonfire. Washington threatened to hang a captured British officer, Charles Asgill, if my executioner was not turned over to him.
