Legends of Speed
New 3-hour documentary about the roots of success by Jamaican athletes on the world stage, focusing on culture, science and history. the story sets the stage and documents the career of Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man.

The film will trace the origins of Jamaica’s passion for sprinting, from the children of slaves who ran at full tilt during holiday celebrations to the explosion of home-nurtured talent now storming the world’s athletics capitals. We will also show how the explosiveness that creates our sprinters also produces world-class throwers and jumpers.

Script Details

It is August 28, 2011 [two thousand eleven].
Daegu [dy-goo], South Korea. Nice and warm; just a slight breeze; no hint of rain.

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake is the youngest man ever to run 100 meters under ten seconds. Though he makes the World Championships final fairly easily, he is overshadowed by the fastest man ever, his teammate and training partner, Usain Bolt.

In the blocks, he has Jamaicans on either side of him, Bolt to his left in lane 5 and Nesta Carter, a very fast starter, to his right in lane 7...

The eight men settle in on the start line, with Bolt rising highest in the set position.

But in a heartbeat before the gun, the big man bolts up from his block, and fouls out in an historic false start.

As Blake regains his composure and walks back to the starter, Bolt leaves the track, simmering in self-reproach…

Soon, the race restarts. It doesn’t take long. At the second time out, Blake leaves the line without trouble. Midway, he catches up to 2003 champion Kim Collins and powers home to win in 9.92 seconds.

At 21 years and 245 days, Yohan Blake has created another first. He is the youngest world champion in the 100 meters, younger than American Carl Lewis, who won the event 28 years earlier.

For Jamaica, there have been many other days like this, days of glory. But it is the first and only time that one country simultaneously holds every major men’s 100-meter crown …

On that day, a different Jamaican holds each title.

These are Days of Lightning…
