LEAP is a program that transforms that potential into potent leadership. Leap trains students from all demographics to build diverse teams to create change in their world.
Abby, for instance, might seem like an ordinary high school student, but her LEAP Project turned her into a leader who designed programs for communities around the world.
In one part of her project Abby built a local and global team to identify and impact chronic issues in Kibera, Kenya.
Through skype and email with leaders in Kibera, Abby and her team chose to develop a waste management solution to address the health risks of human waste in highly populated areas.
After extensive research, the team chose to partner with the Swedish-based organization, Peepoople, to simultaneously impact both the debilitating garbage and malnutrition in Kiberia.
Revolutionary technology transformed human waste to fertilizer. The outcome: grow food, build commerce and strengthen community health.
Through their LEAP training and meetings Abby and her peers embraced their potential and transformed into potent leaders. Their initiative brought resources and support to a community they cared about.
As they further assessed chronic issues, they realized Abby’s peers in Kibera struggled with unnecessary disease.
In a second partnership with Africa AHEAD, Abby and her team raised the funds to implement training and tools to eradicate 5 major diseases. As a result, teachers in 60 schools were able to pass on that education to students and their families to stay healthy.
Even after turning waste to fertilizer, and training staff and teachers to extinguish disease, the team recognized there was still a problem: Community Health Care for all
Abby incorporated her passion for medicine into her Leap project by developing a new community health care curriculum with 2 nurses, one from New York City and one from Kibera.
To implement their collaborative curriculum, Abby and the nurse from NYC spent over 2 weeks in Kibera training their team to train teachers in 60 schools.
Leap trained Abby and her team of fellow high schoolers to be leaders who empower others to realize their own potential as global leaders.
All of this was made possible because Abby took the first step to enroll in LEAP.
"Abby represents the potential leader in each of us.
Her team is just one example of the potent impact we can make when we lead. change. together"
