Script Details

In 1918, the Great Influenza Pandemic took the life of Howard Karagheusian
—a 14 year-old Armenian-American boy born into a family of wealth and privilege
living in New York City.

He was the only son of Mihran and Zabelle Karagheusian
and brother of older sister Leila.

Three years earlier, the first genocide of the 20th century against the Armenian subjects of then-Ottoman Turkey began.

Untold numbers of Armenian orphans were at large—vulnerable to abduction, conversion, starvation and disease.

Through the intersection of these two events, the untimely death of one child redeemed the lives of hundreds of Armenian orphans—and generations of needy children ever since.

One family’s loss
An ancient nation’s curse

A new-world haven
An old-world hell

From paved streets to scorched sands

A grieving father finds vision in a lost child’s eyes
A heartsick mother finds new purpose in faraway cries
A brave sister is called to lead for a lifetime

One family risks it all
To create havens of hope for orphans in need

They build a legacy
Rooted in humanity
Grand acts of charity
Overcoming tragedy

All because of a boy called Howard
Imperiled youth survive in his name

They who dared
Those who cared

To feed hungry mouths
Protect fragile bodies
Prevent disease
Treat illness
Cultivate minds
Teach trades
Forge bonds
Instill pride

For every tooth filled
Vision corrected
Hearing restored
Lesson learned
Challenge met

A new generation rises
And finds its way back “home”

A father’s vision
A mother’s purpose
A sister’s passion

Those who dare
They who care

All in the name of a son called Howard
All for a Nation that protects its own.
