Script Details

Planning a trip to Fairbanks this winter? Cold is cool when you dress for success – Fairbanks style! It all starts with layering.

Start with a base layer of long underwear made from Synthetic or wool. Try to avoid cotton for your base layer. Cotton attracts moisture and doesn’t hold warmth as well as other materials.

Socks should be synthetic or wool as well.

For mild temperatures and short periods of time outside, choose light outer wear.
Footwear should have good traction and room to wiggle your toes

Fleece makes a great lightweight outer layer. You may consider a thin down or synthetic fill
puffy jacket.

Extremities like ears tend to get cold fast. Choose head wear that covers your ears to keep them warm.

Hands are where you first feel the cold. Wear gloves that are appropriate for the temperature.

Temperature’s dropping or Outside for a while? Light outer wear can be used as a mid-layer.

Fleece, wool or flannel make good insulating mid layers.

Insulated, water and wind-proof snow pants are versatile and work well over mid-layers.

A scarf is a great and stylish addition to your winter wardrobe.

All things being equal, Mittens will keep your hands more comfy than gloves.

For temperatures below zero or extended periods of time outdoors, continue to add layers.

A vest is a perfect mid layer to keep your core toasty.

A scarf can be used to pull over your face to keep warm

An insulated, wind and water proof coat over multiple base layers will keep you cozy.

For even warmer hands, layer thin gloves under mittens or use hand warmers.

Congratulations! With these simple wardrobe tips, you’re ready for your trip to go dog mushing, view ice sculptures, or see the northern lights in Fairbanks!
