Dream Big Earthquake Engineering Edutainment Video 
This is an edutainment video that is meant to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. It is a companion piece for an upcoming IMAX film called DREAM BIG!

This is for a broad audience. The pace should be quick and lots of energy and enthusiasm. Imagine if you are speaking to a class of 5th graders and trying to get them excited about the field of earthquake engineering.

Script Details

Earthquakes. It’s one of the planet’s most destructive natural disasters.

Engineers aspire to find solutions so that buildings can withstand mother nature’s most powerful punches.

And as our global population moves closer to the ocean every year, Tsunamis pose an extreme hazard for our society.

At Oregon State University, engineers and students are recreating the ocean’s natural forces on coastal environments.

Where are we?... Welcome to the world’s largest tsunami wave basin.

Don’t let the simplicity of these shapes fool you. There is much more going on beneath the surface.

One of the main attractions is a 300-foot long flume... You’re probably asking yourself – what’s a flume?

One of the cool tools used to capture the water forces on structures are high-speed cameras.

Engineers also love sensors. A lot. They are critical in capturing data that will reveal insights into how these water forces work.

It’s amazing to think that these wave boards can generate 25 tons of water forces within 3 seconds.

The real-time data coming in from these tests can yield interesting new insights.

Finally, a low-tech, human powered technology can sometimes be the best tool for innovation. What could it be? The collaborative process.

So what is the ultimate goal for these engineers and students? What do these tests hope to achieve?
