Project Main Details

Distracted Driving Radio
This radio spot is a part of our Distracted Driving campaign that aims to get drivers to put their phone away while driving and to know talk or text. For an audition, please just read the Man/Woman role. Not the VO announcer.
ISDN is required. We are recording on March 8th, so please only submit an audition if you are available that day.
Casting Specs:
Male or Female
It would help to have some gravitas to the delivery.
They are reading final text messages, so saying things like, “Smiley face” and “Remember when you said you liked Steph?” needs to feel like it’s coming out of left field a bit—after all, the combination of lines don’t have anything to do with each other. So, as a listener, the intriguing thing is what do these words mean together?
I’m not exactly certain how the read would work best. It could be very straight. Or it could be spoken so that it has the feeling of the person who sent it. In other words, “smiley face” would sound happy. “Remember when you said you liked Steph” might feel like how a 16-year-old boy might deliver it. But without the intonations that make the voice actually imitate a 16-year-old boy. (No valley girls—just the emotion behind the lines)

Script Details

Throughout, we hear a serious male voice delivering absurd sentences. As an example of voice style, imagine the “Mayhem” actor from the Allstate commercials.

MAN/Woman (Very serious) “The happy song makes me happy.”

“Hey, you and I need to hang sometime.”

“Remember how you said you liked Steph earlier?”

“Smiley face.”

VO These are the final text messages sent before deadly car crashes. What you have to say may seem important, but it’s not worth your life.

Don’t let your phone drive you. Talk or text later.

Talk. Text. Crash.
