Script Details

We need a positive, informative approach. No hard sell. It's serious business, but this is a great tool for them, so use some subtle enthusiasm.

Pronounce CCCA, UL and UTP all by saying the letters. Say 4-pair as an adjective (describing the type of UTP cable)
CCCA’s new Cable Check app may be used to screen
4-pair UTP communications cable for compliance to National Electrical Code requirements for fire safety. This mobile app applies only to cable identified as UL listed. It is completely free and available on Apple iTunes.

The first tab, lower left, checks the UL file number printed on the cable jacket. Simply insert the “E” number” and, if listed by UL, the manufacturer is identified.

The second main tab, allows you to page through the 5 things to look for when screening cable. The two tabs are designed to be used in concert with one another.

The first page recommends using the UL “Authenticator” card to verify if the UL holographic label, which is required on all UL listed products, is legitimate. The card is available from UL.

Next, examine the printing on the cable jacket for UL file numbers and authorized marks. This page shows what to look for.

The third thing to look for is the UL file number, or “E number”, on the cable jacket which should appear as shown. The file number is explained and may be verified as demonstrated in the first tab.

Reviewing cable specifications or the cable “cut sheet” is an important indicator of compliance. This page shows the correct text and authorized marks to look for.

Finally, watch out for copper clad aluminum conductors. Copper clad aluminum is not permitted by industry codes and standards for 4pair UTP cable designs. This page recommends scraping the conductor surface or weighing the box to spot copper clad aluminum.

CCCA hopes this app will help assure only compliant communications cables are used in your cabling projects.
Please note that you should only use the script or your recording of it for auditioning purposes. The script is property, unless otherwise specified, of the voice seeker and it is protected by international copyright laws.
