Project Main Details
This new project is for an educational animated short film set during the first world war. It's a true story about a British officer, narrated by a fellow soldier.
This is a not-for-profit film so I apologise if the budget is a little low, but our last one was fortunately BAFTA nominated so if this is a success too we're hoping to make some more in the future with an actual budget!
The film's voice is solely the telling of a soldier's own memories serving as narration.
The real soldier, Tom Billingham, was a goalkeeper for Leicester in 1914 and survived the war. We're not too sure on his birthplace but it's probably northern England, and I like the idea of him having a slight Geordie accent. The most important and (potentially) tricky aspect for some of you may be to make him sound elderly. Maybe not quite 100 years old (as the second example), but you should be able to hear he's elderly. If that part is convincing and not too hammy then I'm happy. It's an animated film but it's definitely not a cartoon, and I'm conscious about it sounding unnatural. I'd ideally like it to sound more like a genuine interview, so I'm thinking more "Creature Comforts" rather than "The Flintstones".
I'm attaching two (really long, no need to watch it all!) YouTube links which include lots of interviewees talking about the war and features the type of voice/sound I'm ideally looking for. If you can sound like one of these guys, you've got the gig! In the second link they are probably a bit too infirm, but maybe an age/voice averaging between the two clips might be the ticket!

If you are able to self-record the final version (around the beginning of June) too that would be a real benefit.
Many thanks in advance, I'm really excited about listening to everyone's auditions!

And so they gave us a shilling, one-and-six ration money and then a bit of training, this plump little fellow called Moxley would take us for physical jerks at half past six, running and jumping through Richmond Park, and that was that really. We were all now soldiers. Proper shiny buttons and such. And so we were fired up for it then of course, you wanted to be, you know, a hero."
[Feel free to ad-lib a little if it doesn't sound too natural to you]
