Project Main Details
The purpose of the project is to highlight the 5 ways that ngos in Zambia are working to stop child mortality due to diarrhea. While this subject matter can be tough, we aim to focus on the hope that these solutions posses for the future of the country.
The voice needs to reflect this optimism. One way to describe it would be toward the light side of serious. We would like this narration to be delivered in a Zambia or neutral African accent but it must be clearly understandable by North American English Speakers. 2012-10-31 15:14:02 GMT 2012-11-05 12:00:00 (GMT -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) Yes (click here to learn more about ) Closed 0 0 0 direct invitation(s) have been sent by the voice seeker resulting in 0 audition(s) and/or proposal(s) so far. There are 1.5 million people in Lusaka Provence.
Diarrhea kills one out of every five children before the age of 5 But Zambia is stepping out as a pioneer to defeat diarrhea.
At clinics, communities, and schools, Zambia saves lives everyday in 5 key ways.
Oral Rehydration Solution, sugar and salt dissolved in water, is an essential treatment given to children to prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea.
Children are given ORS at Oral Rehydration Therapy stations in health clinics known as ORT Corners. Zinc is also given in tandem, to both treat and prevent diarrhea.
Mothers are taught how to prepare ORS at home to start healing their children even before coming to the clinic.
Teaching mothers how to keep their children safe by preventing diarrhea strengthens the approach.
Community health workers spread diarrhea prevention messages in person, in small groups,in the community, and at schools with Talking Walls.
But education alone isn't enough to keep children healthy. A recent effort is vaccinating thousands of children against rota virus, the leading cause of severe diarrhea.
Many cases of diarrhea and other diseases come from drinking water that isn't safe.
All of those 30,000 people need clean water in order to stay healthy.
The need for clean water keeps growing as Lusaka Province is the fastest growing region of Zambia.
All of these programs must be supported by policies that allow the most effective implementation.
The Ministry of Health in Zambia is using a three-part strategy to rid the country of diarrheal disease including promotive, preventive and curative methods.
All of these policies have been met with overwhelming approval by the people of Lusaka province. Zambia is planning on rolling them out nationally in 2013.
Thousands of lives have already been saved through these 5 methods. They are all part of creating a world where every child celebrates a 5th birthday and no child dies from diarrhea. Zambia is leading the charge.
