This is a corporate training video to teach non-Americans how to interact with US business people. Maria will be an off-camera voice heard thru a speaker phone.

SAM: Maria, Raj, so glad you can join us. How are you doing?
MARIA and RAJ: Fine, fine.
SAM: Raj, sorry it’s so late there. It doesn’t seem that there’s an easy way to make all the time zones work for us.
RAJ: Don’t worry. I’m used to it. But thank you very much for your concern.
SUE: I remember how tough it was when I was in Shanghai.
SAM: Yeah, I remember that, too. Ahhh, Maria, I’m not sure you’ve met Bob yet, but you guys will be working pretty close together on this project...
BOB and MARIA [simultaneously]: Hi. Nice to meet you.
SAM: All right. Let’s get started.
SAM: Raj, Maria, as we’ve been discussing, we have a real challenge facing us. The problems we’ve discovered in Germany point out how much we need to improve our global business skills and make sure that all our leaders can be effective anywhere in the world. In fact, all our employees need these skills. I don’t think the problem was all Jackson’s fault, but even in his exit interview he said he wished he’d been better prepared for the work style in Germany.
It’s clear that we need to provide our leaders with better training and develop stronger global business skills for everyone in the organization.
SAM: Senior management realizes this as well. We all have to take responsibility for this and fix it – fast. Joyce and I have developed a couple of ideas to get us started, and I’d like you guys to give your frank opinions. We need to come away from this meeting with decisions on the new Learning Platform we’re going to create and how we’re going to introduce it to the organization.
JOYCE: I’ve looked at all of our Learning & Development programs and some of them are great. But we really need your help to make them more relevant and widely accessible throughout the company.
MARIA: I’ve never installed an e-Learning platform, but being at the center of Europe, here, I have some ideas about what should be in it.
RAJ: In my last job, we faced something similar, so I have some ideas as well.
SAM: Great. I look forward to hearing them.
