Project Main Details
How about...an office memo?
25 years ago, this memo proposed something pretty wild for its time: a single network where computers and researchers could connect to share ideas, organize data, and talk about how good “Indiana Jones” was.
It doesn’t sound all that sexy, but this nerdy, idealistic dream was the start of something unimaginably big.
It was the start of the World Wide Web, and in just 25 years it’s grown from that radical dream into the fastest growing communication network in human history. Faster than radio. Faster than television. And definitely faster than beepers.
It’s connected farreaches of the planet and made more information available to more people than every library in the world, combined.
It’s toppled dictators and turned the happenings of a city square into a global event.
It can broadcast to 3 billion people and create instantaneous connection between just two.
Today, the web is where we learn, work, shop, post offkey cover songs, and, hell, even fall in love.
It’s so present in our lives it’s easy to forget it’s even there.
But it hasn’t been all rainbows and LOLcats.
Treating viruses isn’t as simple as chickennoodle soup and bedrest.
Trolls don’t just live under bridges anymore.
Bogus hackers trade personal information like baseball cards.
And every day it seems like there’s a massive new password leak or data breach.
These things are more serious than a headline or a bad week. They threaten the very foundation of the web: trust.
So, 25 years after its invention we're here to say that the Web needs a decisive win. Not a tie, not a draw, not a thanksforplayinghere’syourcertificateofparticipation.
The Web belongs to the people who want to do important things. People who want to do great things. And, sure, even the people who want to do incredibly silly things that distract us from doing actual work.
It's our time to step up and win back the future of the web.
END CARD: “Go” with the following words quickly rotating after it: “create” “start a business” “use the web for Good”. “Go Boldly”
