Script Details

Blue is characterized by shorter wavelengths and red by longer wavelengths with all other colors in between. Most light sources do not radiate equally over the entire visible spectrum. Hence, to accurately describe the characteristics and chromaticity of any light source, one needs to graph its spectral power distribution, or SPD.

Light sources which contain more or less equal quantities of Red, Green and Blue [RGB] are described as full spectrum lighting.

Daylight provides the highest level of color rendering across the visible light spectrum with relatively high power across the entire color spectrum.

However, daylight contains a lot of ultraviolet [UV] and infrared [IR] as well, and although these cannot be seen, they have a damaging effect. The spectral power distribution graph of any light source needs to be compared to daylight to gauge its ability to show true color. The closer the comparison, the higher the Color Rendering Index.
