GORF: Hmmm… LILIE, is this the class of
planet we have been searching for?
LILIE (semi-electronic non-descript voice):
Processing. (SFX: electronic sounds, punching
of buttons, engine sounds, etc.
Correct. This is the sole planet in this galaxy
that has all components needed for diverse life
forms: atmosphere, climate, light, sun, water.
The dominant species refers to itself as Human.
Humans refer to their planet as Earth or the Blue
Earth has seven land masses, known as
continents. There are six biomes. Each biome
represents a region with similar types of plant
and animal life.
There are five major water masses, known as
oceans. Approximately 70% of Earth’s surface
is water. It is the most abundant compound on
97% of Earth’s water is salt water. 3% is fresh
water. Most fresh water is trapped as polar ice.
Less than 1% of all fresh water is available for
consumption by humans and other life forms.
GORF: Less than 1% of all water on the planet
is fresh water?
GORF: Humans must be a highly intelligent and
cooperative species to live peacefully with such
a limited resource.
GORF: Interesting. Then I must learn more
through direct observation. Prepare my
transport to planet Earth. My energy indicator is
very low. Water and life means food, right?
LILIE: Correct, Captain GORF. Calculations
in process. Trajectory has been generated.
Allowances made for gravitational pull and
visual refraction. Your Extra-terrestrial Personal
Access Display Device will provide information
needed during your investigation.
You will arrive in Area 505, a desert biome,
where 10 inches or less of precipitation occur in
a 12-month timeframe.
(Scene 2 – now in Area 505)
GORF: (dizzy, looking around, looking at the
Rio Grande, mumbling to himself about the
rough landing- try to make this funny)
GORF: (to himself) A fresh body of water…
a river…one of the longest on this continent.
