Project Main Details

Vote Solar animation voice over
The video is intended to shine light (so to speak) on two critical but relatively unknown solar policies that we work to advance and defend in states nationwide: net metering and interconnection.

We need someone upbeat, enthusiastic and full of promise to help us present a compelling case that there is a better path forward for our nation when it comes to energy policy.

Script Details

We need someone upbeat, enthusiastic and full of promise to help us present a compelling case that there is a better path forward for our nation when it comes to energy policy.
Our nation's rooftops have tremendous solar power potential, but the old rules of our power grid stand between Americans and all that renewable energy. Yet states have the power to change those rules and unleash their solar potential.

Going solar requires that you first "plug" your system into the power grid. The rules for this interconnection can be so complicated and expensive that it prevents you from going solar altogether.

A straightforward interconnection process can cut through the mess and make it easy to go solar.

There are times when solar panels generate more power than is currently needed. This extra energy is put to good use nearby.

Net Metering makes sure solar owners receive a credit on their power bills for the energy they put back on the grid.

This credit fairly compensates all kinds of energy users, from small homes and big businesses to schools and public buildings.

Together, interconnection and net metering are powerful tools for unleashing the many benefits of local solar.

They keep energy dollars invested in the community - putting people to work wherever there's a roof.

And they reduce the need for expensive, polluting power plants, leaving us more clean air to breathe, which benefits us all.

The basic rules of a fair grid vary widely state to state, but all across the country exciting progress is being made.

Freeing the Grid is here to let each state know where it stands - and provide a roadmap for continued progress so all 50 states can be clean energy leaders
