Project Main Details

Voice of a light bulb
This recording will be played one time: at the annual meeting of a local electric co-op in Alaska. A character named CFL Charlie is going to come out on stage and "talk" to the CEO of the co-op. He's a giant Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (a man in a suit). You will be recording Charlie's side of the conversation.

Charlie has 4 lines.

I have NO idea what a talking light bulb would sound like. Give it your best shot.

Script Details

Sample script provided for auditions:

Brian: Charlie, welcome to Fairbanks. Now, how much energy do you really save?

CFLC: Well Brian, I use less than one quarter of the energy that my incandescent cousins use.

Brian: What does that mean as far as energy savings?

CFLC: Think of it this way. Let’s say you drive a pickup truck that gets 13 miles to the gallon. Then you replace the motor with a new miracle engine that gets 60 miles to the gallon – without any loss of power. Do you think that would be a good investment?

Brian: You bet it would. I’d like to get one of those miracle engines for my SUV. Now, how about lighting quality? I remember those early compact fluorescents were kind of dim, and they gave off a greenish glow.

CFLC: Be careful, you’re talking about my grandma! (canned laughter or rim shot) Actually Brian, modern ********* like me give off a pleasant white light.

Brian: And how often do you have to be replaced?

CFLC: That’s the real beauty of ********* – according to the U.S. Department of Energy, I can last up to ten times longer than an old fashioned incandescent bulb.

Brian: Well Charlie, you’ve shed some light on an important subject. Thanks for coming by. Let’s hear it for *** Charlie everybody. (Theme music as he walks off)
