Voice of Mr Carpenter
We are looking for a character voice to act as “Mr. Carpenter” in our audio skit “Responsus”(tentative title at this point). Our company ***************, publishes a series of educational audio montage/adventures. The overall audio adventure will be about 40 minutes but "Mr. Carpenter's" part is one of the small character in this adventure. The skits are designed to kick-start discussion in classrooms, or plain family entertainment. Each one tackles character building from a different perspective. We will be producing more episode and this character could possibly re-appear in future production.

There will be supporting casts of adults (teachers, parents etc...) and other kids coming in and out. The settings is urban, the kids will have to deal with modern urban issues. The old part of a school is the "mysterious place" which will allow us to bring some mild fantasy to the stories. The stories takes place in the present. I have provided a sample of the script.

The part of Mr. Carpenter is only 13 lines, I suspect under a minute or 2 of overall recording. Two teenage students are returning from a mysterious adventure in the old part of the College. As they returned to the new part of the college they come in face to face with Mr. Carpenter, the teacher they were looking for in the first place to hand in a late assignment. Your character "Mr. Carpenter" is a young adult to middle age male adult, friendly voice, your everyday teacher, energetic. Your voice will be auditioned by several teenagers and kids to see if it the right teacher.

The method of payment will be discussed once the candidate has been chosen. Usually Voice-talent artist have provided us with two takes of each lines. By Bidding on this bid the voice-talent artist will sign waiver giving publisher ownership of the completed work, including ad-lib you might ad to the original script. If you do not want to sign waiver, do not apply for this bid. Delivery method can be FTP. We want the recording in full Wave (Not MP3)-usually 16 bit 44.1 KHz. We do the post-production work. The recording must be free of any background noise, basically of studio quality.

The product will be release on a CD for sales to mainly parents, educators/school units. In the coming year, the skit will be available through Web Download as well.

Also, there is no time constraint on your voice-talent work. These skits are not generally strictly limited by any time. Enjoy the free-flow and unleash your talent. Some artist do provide us with a supplementary version where you can Ad-lib, and this is welcome. However, again you are signing the waiver releasing any rights to this part of the production. Please provide for a reasonable amount of re-take if need be in the future.

We have provided enough information for the artist(s) to make an adequate and informative proposal. Sampler voices are a must. We want to thank all of the artists in advance for their time and efforts.

These recordings are for educational purpose and it is not expected to have "Top 40 distribution, although it is shaped as a radio show, there are no plans at this point for radio distribution. Therefore budget is limited.

Scene 7: School Basement Hallway

(sound: knock on door.)

Here, just a few more steps…

I sure hope this big wooden door lets us back in the school.

Here we go…

(sound: door opening)

Good, we’re back in our school.

Safe and sound.

(sound: door closing)

Noranda… Sebastian, what are you doing here?

Mr. Carpenter!

Wow, you guys seem unusually happy to see me. In fact, you guys look a bit frazzled. Is everything okay?

Mr. Carpenter, these words “Sapere Aude” carved on the door... do you know what they mean?

Looks like an old language… Greek or something.

It’s Latin for “dare to be wise.”

“Dare to be wise.”

Yes, “dare to be wise.” Others have translated it as “Dare to know.” It’s quite commonly used in educational institutions.

Sebastian and I have just been through this door and into the Old College and back.

The Old College? You’re pulling my leg… aren’t you?

No, Mr. Carpenter, we are telling the truth. We went through the “Sapere Aude” door looking for your office.

That’s unusual really. I have never heard of students getting past this door.

There is a tunnel behind that door that leads to the Old College.

Tell me...How was the “Sapere Aude” door opened?

Well, it didn’t open for me…

But when I fumbled with the knob, the door opened.

And you went in?

Yes, we both did. Is this door usually kept locked?

Not really, but it seems to have a life of its own.

What do you mean, “a life of its own”?

Some people seem to go in fine and others not. It’s like the door chooses to let you in or not... temperamental I guess. This part of the school hasn’t been kept up - including door locks.

Why don’t they get the lock fixed?

For the most part it doesn’t open, so it suits the purpose just fine… it keeps people out!

So, I suppose if we told you we met a mad scientist and got chased by bees, met an old librarian, people probably would think we were making the whole thing up?

People would probably say that you have a very good imagination. I wouldn’t have believed it either, except for the manuscript you are holding in your hand.

Can you tell me more about the journal and why my name and handwriting are in it?

“Responsus” I think you already know what you need to do with it. I see you brought in your late assignment…I’ll take that … Well kids got to go...See you in class tomorrow!
