Project Main Details

Upcountry Voice 1
Cortina Productions is producing a 15-minute historical film for a museum in South Carolina. This film will tell the story of the South Carolina Upcountry through a lens of ambition--economic ambition, spiritual ambition, and social ambition. The film will portray the Upcountry as a vibrant and determined place, one that keeps redefining itself over time, and one whose residents feel a deep connection to the land in which they live.

Script Details

I need a Caucasian male to read for three different character voices. These characters are:

1) David Golightly Harris – a 19th century farmer and slave owner in the Piedmont region of South Carolina.

2) Ben Perry – a 19th century lawyer and editor, an educated man who sided with the Union during the Civil War.

3) Walt Whitman - Middle aged, educated, mid-Atlantic accent.
1) David Golightly Harris
a. Soundbite #1: I had a fight with old Will…It is painful that I am reduced to the use of a stick but the Negroes are becoming so imprudent and disrespectful, I cannot bear it…
b. Soundbite #2: Politics are at the boiling point. The majority is for secession. It’s a desperate remedy but I say, secede and risk it.

2) Ben Perry –
a. Soundbite #1: I love the South, and it is because I love her, and would guard her against evils which no one can foresee or foretell, that I am a Union man.

3) Walt Whitman
a. Soundbite #1: It is morning again and i can nearly set my clock by the president’s passing. After months of this ritual, we’ve gotten to exchanging cordial nods. I’ve noticed his face seems exceedingly careworn as the war drags on. Yes, it is the worried face of a wartime president. But it is more than that. It grows more and more like that of the soldiers that i visit in the hospitals... No poetry or painting can capture his expression.
