When faced with the task of wearing a tie, there are many options to choose from: the Four-in-Hand, the full Windsor, the Half-Windsor, and the Pratt knot, to name a few.
Today, we’re going to show you how to tie one of the most common and useful styles, the Full Windsor knot.
The full Windsor knot is a fairly common style and is a bit larger than the more casual half-Windsor, making it appropriate for more formal occasions. This knot is ideally suited for a spread collar dress shirt.
To start, place the tie around your neck with the wide side on the right side of your body. Adjust the tie so that the length of the wide side is about 12 inches longer than the other side.
Take the wide side, and cross it over the thin side, crossing the two near your neck.
Now, take the wide side, and bring it up, and loop it through the opening between your neck and your tie, and pull it back toward the right once more.
Take the wide side again, and cross it behind the knot you have just begun to create, pulling it toward the left.
Taking the wide end that you’ve just crossed behind the knot, bring it down through the same loop, bringing it from the top and pulling down under the knot. You will see a small triangle begin to form.
Take the wide side and pull it back out to your right.
Now, cross it over the knot, from right to left.
Bring the wide side back up through the loop, and drape it down over the front of knot. Bot sides should now be centered on your body.
Now, take the wide side of your tie and, starting from the top, slide it through the opening on the knot that you’ve just created, and pull it down back over the thin side.
To finish, make sure your tie is centered and symmetrical, and tighten it up.
