Things I Don't Understand
************************* is a web series for MSN. It is a humorous information based series. The Thinking Man ponders one of life's big questions, and steps into an 'answer booth' where he is enlightened by 'The all seeing, all knowing voice'. She should be a voice of authority, and be eloquent and intelligent sounding. She will need to have good comedic timing though, as she will banter with 'The Thinking Man' throughout the episode. She should have either a General US accent, or a British accent. I have submitted a part of the script so that you can understand the relationship between the Thinking Man (who we see on camera) and the All seeing all knowing Voice (who we don't).
Feel free to choose a section of the script for your audition. I just thought it important that you see the banter.

Script Details

***Please provide a sample in order to audition.
THINKING MAN: Can I live off the grid?

THE VOICE: Sure. Lots of people live off the grid.
It’s becoming increasingly popular to find your own source of power.

THINKING MAN: Great! Then let’s all live off the grid!

THE VOICE: Just because you can make your own power doesn’t mean you should. The U.S. Power grid is made up of over 180,000 miles of power lines that give power to millions of people every day. It’s more efficient than everyone making energy for themselves. Plus people think living off the grid is more environmentally friendly, but that’s not necessarily the case.

THINKING MAN: So living on the grid is better? Great!

THE VOICE: It’s not that easy. The way we produce
energy, although more efficient than producing it on our own, isn’t the most friendly thing we could do for the environment. Plus, a lot of the existing system is over 50 years old. The layout is often obsolete. This leaves the system vulnerable.

THE THINKING MAN: Vulnerable? To what!?

THE VOICE: Tripping a power cable can cause
blackouts for entire regions. Plus there’s cybersecurity.

THE THINKING MAN: What is that!?

THE VOICE: It’s becoming an increasing concern to
those in controlling the grid that the way our grid is set up now leaves it open to infiltration from computer hackers.

THE THINKING MAN: This sounds like the plot from the 2007
action-packed block buster, “Live Free or Die Hard” starring Bruce Willis.

THE VOICE: What is that?

THINKING MAN: It’s a movie.

THE VOICE: I’m an all-seeing all knowing voice. Do
you really think I have time to watch movies?

THINKING MAN: So you know about the movie, then?

THE VOICE: Well of course, I just never sat down and
digested it is all.

THINKING MAN: Well, McClane foils the plot of evil
computer hackers to take down the power grid...

THE VOICE: Jesus! What is your problem!?

THINKING MAN: I’m just saying it’s a good movie...

THE VOICE: The point is, the more connected the
grid, the greater the chance of a cascading power failure.

THINKING MAN: What? It’s just power. I do plenty of
things without power.

THE VOICE: You wouldn’t survive 5 minutes without

THINKING MAN: Yeah I could! I could eat a sandwich.

THE VOICE: With the rancid meat from your broken

THINKING MAN: I’d go for a walk.

THE VOICE: Good luck clearing your head when all the
motorists are in a panic because the stoplights aren’t working.
