Project Main Details
The Happy Film takes a look at the strategies serious psychologists recommend to improve one's personal well-being and overall happiness. The questions “Is it possible to train our mind in the same way that we train our bodies?” and “Can we change our behavior to make us happier?” will be answered in this highly visual documentary. The subject of the film will conduct a series of self-experiments to see if he can successfully impact his own happiness.
Throughout the film, animations will serve as access points to a larger exploration of happiness, it's cultural significance, our constant pursuit of it, and its uniquely ephemeral nature.
We are casting for a narrator or voice talent who can provide a voice to several scripted elements throughout the film.
We are looking for a calm male voice, that is both comfortable to listen to, while speaking with authority.
Though the subject matter might appear dry, your narration will compliment beautiful, colorful animations that are thought provoking and at times humorous. To that point, we are looking for someone with strong CHARACTER, though not with a personality that is overwhelming. We are looking for an intelligent voice, while also sounding fresh. 2012-02-22 20:09:13 GMT 2012-03-09 19:00:00 (GMT -05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) Yes (click here to learn more about ) Closed 0 0 1 direct invitation(s) have been sent by the voice seeker resulting in 0 audition(s) and/or proposal(s) so far. To that point, we are looking for someone with strong CHARACTER, though not with a personality that is overwhelming. We are looking for an intelligent voice, while also sounding fresh. My mind is split in two. Research psychologist Jonathan Haidt describes the mind as a small rider, the conscious, sitting on a giant elephant, the unconscious. The rider thinks he is in charge and can tell the elephant where to go, but the elephant has his own ideas.
The rider cannot force the elephant into a direction, but can train him slowly over time. If the rider and the elephant work as a team – when the conscious and the unconscious are close – my life is going to be rich.
Only 100 years ago I would’ve had little control over my life: I’d likely stayed put right where I was born, got into the same profession as my dad – the Miller’s were millers, the Smith’s were smithes – and married the partner I was told to wed by my parents.
Mountains and oceans dictated where we lived, casts and religions told us whom to marry, family structures forced us into what we did. For the first time in history we are in charge of the important decisions of our lives: Where do I want to live? What do I want to do? With whom do I want to do it?
And even so, some of us let our unconscious mind make these decisions without being consciously aware of it.
