Sample reading for Cornelius:

Dearest Miranda, I have traveled abroad to conduct an experiment of monumental proportions and I find myself in need of your assistance. I know that we have had our differences in the past but this is an urgent need and I hope that you’ll be quick to take up the request. I had recently ordered several parts to be delivered to me here but en route, most were lost. Only two made it to the colony but even those have met with tragedy. Therefore, I’m requesting that you will gather the parts I need and personally convey them to me here. I know that you will conduct yourself with the utmost discretion. Speak with Esra at the New Coventry Hotel when you arrive. He’ll give you a room. Your Grandfather, Cornelius

CORNELIUS
My dear Granddaughter, you do not have the experience to understand morality. Trust me, when you grow older perhaps you’ll see my thoughts. There are far too many things to create, too many thoughts left unfinished. I will not see my legacy destroyed because of the frailties of the body.

RINALDO
We never did finish our conversation, Cornelius. I can’t believe that you would force this madness.

CORNELIUS
Madness? Oh, Rinaldo you will learn. All of you will. Don’t think for a moment that I won’t finish this and show you all that you’re wrong. Miranda, see to assembling the parts. Sprocket, come here.

Sample reading for Peyton and the Captain:

PEYTON
Hey now, this is no place for a young lady! What’re you doing down here?

MIRANDA
I’m sorry, the captain said it was okay. My name is Miranda Calomy and I was hoping that I might take a look around. I’m an engineer of sorts.

PEYTON
Hoy, I know your family name! Your father was a famous inventor! He’s responsible for the propulsion system in this very airship design!

MIRANDA
So I heard. Do you mind?

PEYTON
It would be my honor! Are you interested in helping out?

MIRANDA
I would love to! What can I do?

PEYTON
First, I was just about to clean the place up. I’ll tell you what: I’ll have you help me recalibrate the timing emitter if you’ll gather up the cargo that spilled in here. Several crates recently broke and left the place a mess!

MIRANDA
Oh, sure I’ll help with that. I studied these engines for years! I never thought I’d see one in person.

***

MIRANDA
There, the place should be cleaned up! Can I see that emitter now?

PEYTON
Of course! Come along!

*an explosion racks the ship. Cut scene shows that the bow is hit and something collapses on Peyton. The engine stops*

PEYTON
Pirates are attacking! Gah! Miranda! Are you okay?

MIRANDA
Yes, I’m fine, what about you?

PEYTON
I’m trapped!

CAPTAIN (voice over intercom)
Peyton, get those engines up now!

PEYTON
I can’t get up, Miranda! You’ll have to do it!

MIRANDA
Me!? I’m not sure if I can!

PEYTON
You’ll have to try! We don’t have much time!

MIRANDA
The engine seems to have lost some parts! They’re all over the place!

PEYTON
Hurry!

***

MIRANDA
There, I found them all! Now… to look at that engine! We have to hurry, Sprocket!

*puzzle to fix the engine. Upon completion, the engine starts up and they’re moving again*

MIRANDA
We did it! The ship’s moving!

PEYTON
I knew you could! Good work!

Sample reading for Rinaldo:

MIRANDA
Oh, where is that dreadful Esra? I really must speak with him!

RINALDO
I believe that he stepped out back to deal with a laundry problem. It sounded serious.

MIRANDA
Perfect! Just perfect!

RINALDO
You seem as bent out of shape as he was.

MIRANDA
My room was just broken into! Someone stole something from me!

RINALDO
How tragic. I do hope that you’re alright.

MIRANDA
I’m fine. I just… I need what was stolen back!

RINALDO
Yes, of course. Hm, I don’t think Esra will be back for a while so I suppose I’ll just trundle along. Good luck finding your missing property, Ms Calomy. Good day.

MIRANDA
Hey! How did he know my name?

Sample reading for Bertram:

*At this point, while Miranda is trying to explain, Sprocket is fiddling with a vase and accidentally breaks it*

SPROCKET
Bzz, click, bzz!

BERTRAM
Oh my!

MIRANDA
Sprocket! Oh no! I’m so sorry, sir! Was it valuable?

BERTRAM
Priceless! That vase was nearly 1200 years old! It’s irreplaceable!

MIRANDA
Could we fix it?

BERTRAM
Young lady, you do not fix history. No, no, no, this will not do! What am I to do now?

MIRANDA
I could pay for it? Something at least? We really are sorry.

BERTRAM
Hmm, well, I suppose there is something that you could do. There’s an awful lot of cleaning to do in the storeroom if you can assure me your clockwork won’t cause any more harm.

MIRANDA
Oh, sir, I can promise that he won’t hurt anything else. He’s very sorry!

BERTRAM
Very well. Let me show you to the store room then, Miss Calomy and you can get to work.

Sample reading for the Dockmaster:

MIRANDA
Sure! But what am I going down there for?

DOCKMASTER
I’m looking for some seashells actually. My daughter’s a collector you see and it would make her day if you could find some.

MIRANDA
Why not? Lower me down!

***

MIRANDA
Here you go! I found them!

DOCKMASTER
Thank you! That was very kind of you! If you need anything at all from us down here, you just ask!

MIRANDA
Just my parts please. I must be on my way!

DOCKMASTER
Here you go and have a good day!

Sample reading for Father Preston:
MIRANDA
Excuse me, Father?

FATHER PRESTON
Mutters to himself

MIRANDA
Hmm, that doesn’t look right at all. Let me help.

***

FATHER PRESTON
Well, I say! Good show, Miss! Er… hello! I didn’t notice you! I seem to get rather focused. Sorry about that. My name is Father Preseton. Thank you for the help, er… miss?

MIRANDA
Miranda Calomy. It’s good to meet you!

FATHER PRESTON
Likewise, for certain. What brings you here, Miss Calomy?

MIRANDA
Actually, I’m here because I’ve lost some cargo when we were flying in and I believe that some of it might be in your yard. Would you mind if I take a peek?

FATHER PRESTON
You’re speaking of the little graveyard out there. I suppose I don’t mind considering but I must admit that I’ve put in requests for the flight path to be changed several times. The whole graveyard has been dumped on! Perhaps if you’re going to poke around anyway you could help me out? I’ve been meaning to get rid of quite a bit of stuff for some time.

MIRANDA
Of course I’d help but I don’t know what belongs and what doesn’t.

FATHER PRESTON
I’ve cataloged the things that don’t belong. Please, if you don’t mind, here’s a list.

MIRANDA
I’ll get right on it, Father!
