With the population rising, but life insurance sales in decline, the life insurance industry is facing some pretty tough questions. Is life insurance still relevant to today’s consumer? Are we telling the right story? Is there still a role for the traditional agent in today’s technologically advanced society?

In early 2012, Transamerica embarked on a major innovation initiative with *************** to examine these questions and inspire new thinking throughout the organization. As part of this initiative, Project Orion was designed to target and develop new ways to engage current and prospective sellers of life insurance, to keep ************ at the forefront of innovation in the industry.

*************** began by reviewing 3rd party research and conducting interviews with key stakeholders at ************ and members of the *********************. They were looking for a way to focus Project Orion towards intermediaries that would be open to selling new, innovative products designed by ************. The thinking was simple: those who are open to innovation will be best suited to capitalize on a changing environment. This formed the basis for the central question of Project Orion: How can ************* align with intermediaries who recognize and engage with change to deliver innovative products?
