Strong voiced character for video game
ZDLTK15206619438X
This part is of the character the player of the video game will be controlling - a warrior. At this point I'm not sure exactly how much total script there will be as the title is still under development, so it is difficult for me to state a budget. I will pay competitively (toward the higher end of the scale) for the part, and we can discuss details once the talent is chosen. Feel free to suggest rates knowing that I am unable to disclose how much work (script wise) there will be.

The character is your quintessential butt-kicking musclebound hero/warrior who wields a large sword. The setting is a subterranean world inhabited by many Tokienesque characters, although the hero himself is a human. He is a mercenary. He is VERY cold, slightly arrogant, jaded, and dark - but not evil per se. He is completely apathetic towards others feelings and interested only in his own personal gain. Oh, and he is basically a psychopath. However, this needs to be conveyed through his voice and overall presence as opposed to through over dramatic acting. He is very cool, and generally understated, yet we must get the sense that just beneath the surface is a potential animal. He isn't stupid, but he is far from refined. Imagine someone who has done a lot of prison time, is 'street' smart even though this takes place during a long ago period. Someone you wouldn't want to mess with... he instills fear (but again, not through an evil delivery). A deeper voice, or a voice with some grit and perhaps an 'airy' delivery, as opposed to fm radio roundness. A little 'Duke Nuke em' if you will. Tough and understated.

Examples - Clint Eastwood. Very cool and calculated, and he rarely raises his voice. Doesn't say too much, yet he commands respect through the little he does say and just by his presence. A little bit of Vin Diesel. Perhaps a hint of Sawyer from 'Lost', minus the southern accent of course. Perhaps

Speaking of accents...we are open in this department. It could be Brit but doesn't necessarily have to be. We just want to avoid sounding modern American. Good acting is essential.

I am including excerpts from some scripts along with the additional lines of the characters he is bantering with so you have an idea of the settings. Please feel free to give several consecutive takes on individual lines so that I can get a better idea of your different potential approaches. Thanks, and I look forward to listening and working with you.

Dungeon Hero Script 1

The faint sound of crying can be heard under the title screen. Fade Up: Weak, pale light baths the landscape and two figures are walking along a gulley. The Hero strides forward with a weeping peasant woman fawning at his heels.

[The faint sound of crying continues]
Continues zoom so the figures are clearer – A well-muscled man, in warrior garb, is being followed by a middle-aged peasant woman with her hands held out in front on her in a pleading gesture.

[The sound of crying can be heard slightly louder, along with the sound of the warrior’s boots, and the softer sound of the woman’s ragged footwear]
Cut-away to the warrior’s boots stomping along the path.

[The sound of crying can be heard clearly - the woman’s sobs are tempered by ragged breaths as the attempts to keep up with the Hero. The sound of the dual footsteps continues.]
Peasant woman’s scruffy and well-worn boots can be seen running along behind the warrior’s boots.

FEMALE PEASANT
(Half sobbing)“Please, warrior, have pity on us. The slave traders ransacked our village... they took our young ones... my little Elsa... the others.”
Warrior’s boots stop stomping along; peasant woman almost skids into them. Warrior is shown from the front, but only the bottom part of his mouth (chin), neck and some torso. The scars should be visible. Focus on the Warrior, the peasant woman seen in the background
WARRIOR
(Coldly)“Have you coin?”
Same shot- Focus on the woman in the background, Warrior is blurred.
FEMALE PEASANT
(Distressed/half sobbing)“No... no, they took almost everything we had.”
WARRIOR
(Coldly)“Then yours is not my concern.”
Boots stomp off again, woman collapses to the ground sobbing. Pull back to forest path, warrior walking away, woman slumped on the ground crying.
Suddenly a bag flies through the air and lands on the ground in front of the boots, the noise from inside suggests it contains coins.
Cuts to a cloaked figure, human-sized, a large cowl completely covers its head. The figure is standing near the edge of a ravine, above a dried up river bed.
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
(Slightly mocking, echoing across the canyon walls)“Perhaps this will buy your concern, warrior.”
Warrior tips the bag into his hand, a few gold coins fall out.
WARRIOR
“It’s enough to buy my interest.”
Cuts to the cloaked figure (appears to be the size of a human) close up on the hood with its dark, mysterious depths.
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“There’s more where that came from.”
WARRIOR
(Cold/arrogant)“Good.”
Fade out and Fade in to the cloaked figure standing on the edge of the ravine. The slaver’s encampment can be seen in the distance. As the Hero joins the Hooded figure looking in to the distance, the figure speaks:
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“Slavers have made their foul nest within the ruined walls of that fort. They move from town to town snatching all they think they can get a good price for... even flesh and bone.”
Close in on the ruins. Perhaps there are some slavers on guard outside.

WARRIOR [OFF SCREEN]
“And what have they taken from you?”
Back to the hero and cloaked figure

GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“My customers. I too am a trader, of a fashion. But I cannot sell to those that are grieving for their children, nor to those who have nothing to give. ”
The Hero and Shaman turn to walk down the slope

WARRIOR
“What do you want from me?”
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“Infiltrate their encampment and cull them. Release any prisoners you find.”
WARRIOR
(Slightly contemptuous/arrogant)“They are just slavers? Are you so willing to be parted from your gold?”
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“Mark my words... although many of their numbers are out gathering, the ones left behind are tough as those boots of yours. They’ve had to be... one cannot trade in flesh and know compassion or mercy.”

WARRIOR
“Then they will know pain and death.”
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“This was my hope, Warrior [short head bow]. I happen to know a way in to the complex, unguarded for years, it may serve you well. [Gestures for the Hero to follow] It will allow you swift access to the slavers and their precious... merchandise.”
The Hero and the hooded figure approach the edge of a gulley- a narrow shaft is sunk in to the floor. P.O.V is from the mouth of the shaft looking up towards the two figures.
WARRIOR
(Readying himself/arrogant)“Have my payment waiting, trader, this will not take long.”
Fade to gameplay

Script 2
Additional note - the warrior’s first line below should be done as though he is breathing very heavily. He was just bound by some ‘magical’ roots, and was struggling to free himself. After that first line his breathing should return to normal, or at least less labored for the most part.

GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“Rise and bind.”
Roots rise out of the ground and hold the warrior fast.
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
“Do not misplace that rage of yours, warrior - Those creatures were not of my creation! They were from... a different place, a dark place...”
WARRIOR
(Angry)“The deal was for the slavers, merchant! Anything else is your problem.”
GREENLEAF SHAMAN
(Sharp)“I know you’re without home and family...I know how you live your life, warrior! (Softens) I also know that part of you is still seeking answers. Hear me out...”
THE WARRIOR LOOKS DOWN AT THE ROOTS, WHICH TIGHTEN SLIGHTLY.
WARRIOR
(Dry)”Seems I don’t have a choice...” (alternate line - (slightly sarcastic) I’ll just uhhhh….wait here)
WARRIOR
(Coldly)“Have you coin?”

WARRIOR
(Coldly)“Then yours is not my concern.”

WARRIOR
“It’s enough to buy my interest.”

WARRIOR
(Cold/arrogant)“Good.”

WARRIOR [OFF SCREEN]
“And what have they taken from you?”

WARRIOR
“What do you want from me?”

WARRIOR
(Slightly contemptuous/arrogant)“They are just slavers?
