Project Main Details
Water is the most basic human right, yet there are one in nine people on the planet without access to clean water. It’s a fact most of us have ignored until now.
In developing countries, women and young girls bear the burden of walking miles to collect water from contaminated sources. It’s a chore that takes hours. As a result, those children miss an estimated 270 million school days.
Because gathering water takes the majority of a person’s day, it’s been reported that 40 billion hours per year are wasted on collecting water alone. Those are hours that can be spent farming, running a business or caring for a family.
Water is essential to grow food. It takes enormous amounts of water to produce enough food for a small community. So much so that 70 percent of our fresh water sources are dedicated to agriculture and irrigation. Families who live in rural areas rely on the scarcity of water to produce crops. Crops that are meager and often come up short.
At any given time, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients carrying waterborne diseases. It’s a hard fact to swallow, but more than one million water-related deaths occur in children under 5 years old. Safe water has the power to transform lives. Just by improving the water supply, nearly 10 percent of the world’s disease burden can be lifted.
We’ve done the research and we’ve decided to get involved. By joining us, you’re choosing to help stop the vicious cycle of water-related deaths and disease. You’re choosing to help improve education, relieve the hunger crisis, and grow local economies.
For every three Stream filters purchased, we’ll donate one filter to a community in need. The filter will provide clean drinking water for up to 100 people. By getting involved, you’re helping us reach our overall goal of 1 million drinking water filters donated to people around the world.
Imagine a world where everyone has access to clean drinking water. Where mothers can provide safe water to their children. Waterborne illnesses are no longer a threat. And the cycle of poverty is broken. Make that world realty and spread the word about the Stream Project.
It starts with you, and ends with worldwide access to clean water.
